Is that near the airbase? I think I've flown at that spot, and I remember crossing that channel with my 90 and thinking, DO NOT crash in the poo water.....

Great job on getting it out and not getting Hep A, B, and C...

The revisted video is south of Mather @ the field. No poo water there this time of year, but give a few months.

The original splash down was in canal in N. Stockton not far from my house, lucky why it was only underwater for 20 minutes...whew!

Outrage is "The Bomb", HeliDirect sent me a replacement battery at no charge, so all I was out was a fried ESC. Sweeeeet!

Go with "Outrage batteries", warranty is warranted!

How could you let this happen.

I just dont understand the level of unprofessional flying there.
In our Dry Lake bed chapter of the Mojave Desert Flying Club here in Death Valley, we scout everywhere for water bodies before any Transmitter is turned on. In our diligent search for bodies of water, sure we have to clear the occasional desert rattler, and endure some pretty horrific dust storms but we MAKE SURE that there are no rivers lakes or oceans(including canals) around our dead miners gulch flying area. Since our club President Partch Wells instituted this policy we have lost ZERO with a capital 0 due to water hazards. This coupled with .000001 inches of rain since 1995 have kept our club water hazard helicopter free. We have by accident injured some coyotes and desert tortoises but no fatalities.
If you have any questions email our secratary Drot Rivers at dustbowl@dustdevil.com

Well Mr. PaulGT3:

I could have simply blamed Align for making lame tail assembly gears that seperate/pop off during flight, but I manly stood up to blame my flying over water as a possible prime suspect. I don't recall anyone or flight training courses advising pilots not to fly over water. The only thing I recall is not to fly during a rainstorm, and since it was a very pleasant sunny and warm morning, found it to a helicopter pilots liking.

If I missed some policy along the line somewhere of not flying near water, then it was obviously not published where helicopter pilots could easily see it or find it. <G>

Now that you mentioned where you fly, shouldn't there be a policy about flying in the desert where dust and grit could easily be sucked into your motor/blades and cause a crash? I know there have been a many accidents in the Gulf wars of helicopter crashes due to the dusty enviroments, but not many crashing due to splashes in water unless shot down.

I will definately be in touch with your club secretary as I'm a club secretary too and will see if this policy your advising of should go down in the record books. Thanks for the advice!

YES You have pointed out a glaring omission in our club policies!!
Wow and here I am complaining about YOUR policies. We should institute dragging and watering down the field before flying! Of course we would have to truck water in since the nearest water body is 100 miles away.
And doing hovering close to the ground is very dust consuming.
I appreciate your comments and sharing your experiences. Another issue is falling rock.

Thanks PAULGT3

We all have LESSONS to learn throughout our experiences. Hopefully my sharing of this unfortunate experience will not only enlighten people, BUT give room for thought on where and where NOT to fly.

There were a number of r/c helicopter water crash videos that popped up immediately after I published mine, so one is to imagine that water crash experiences happen more than one thinks. Should there be a policy to keep these experiences SILENT like TABOO or have a more OPEN DOOR policy of sharing? Hopefully this gives more room for thought too!

I personally have not flown at this location since this incident happened, probably due to a fear factor scenario. I have however, found a new ALFALFA FIELD to fly in with the nearest water source being a cow trough about 1/4 mile out. NOW if I ever make it into that COW TROUGH by mistake, then we have a serious ISSUE and I would probably leave the hobby on the notion of PURE BAD LUCK!

Below is a clip of that new location to get your POLICY APPROVAL!
Please Advise.

As I was saying about other videos popping up. I still feel fortunate to have retrieved mine.
