So the other night I decided to pull my Futura SE out of storage and started getting it ready to fly again. In the process of checking all of the bearings I discovered that the two on the large aluminium bar spin smoothly, but one of them doesn't spin as easy as the other. If I put the small pinion gear through the hole and spin it, one will stay spinning for a second or so and the other stops immediately.

Is it possible to just replace the one bearing? Everywhere I have looked all I've been able to find is the entire aluminium bar with both bearings already installed. Short of replacing the one bearing, would it be possible to clean and re-lube this bearing?

On my other helis, I replace the bearing at the first signs of ageing; but they also don't cost $50+ each to do so.

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

Bearing

Heat up STP oil treatment and put the bearing in it an get it lube up. After it cools take out the bearing wipe it down and it may work fine, it probably has a little rust in there from sitting or gummed up. The bearing cost money but there well made parts. Or contact Boca bearings in FL they make repro bearings. I usually will spray the bearing down with a parts cleaner get the crap out maybe just dust and do the STP thing to it. It works well I learned this 20 years ago from old timer. After the STP cools down it stays in there.

Awesome, thank you. I was also doing some more googling on how to clean and re-lube the bearings. It seems it will be worth trying to see if it fixes my problem.

I would just replace the bearing if I could get it out of the aluminium bar or if both bearing where bad. I just don't like spending that much to replace a single bearing out of two and trashing the aluminium bar. I really need to look up the proper name for that thing.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Just heat up the aluminum bar and the bearing comes out easy,
You get that size at any bearing store. Standard FAG or SKF .

So just heat it up in an oven like I would to get the bearings out of the engine? I thought about trying that, but wanted to see what others where doing before I did.

Thanks Markus.

The aluminum bearing block is pretty forgiving, I just use
a torch and heat it up from the side without exposing the bearing
to the flame in case you want to use it again.
New bearing in freezer and bearing block in oven makes for a very easy
assembly.
PS I would change both bearings when your at it..

Are you talking about the aluminum framerails?
See in this SE manual > http://www.rcmarket.org/Manuals_Helis/S2990-SE.pdf
