After getting into a crash with my Beam, I was looking for parts to replace. I had asked on here as to possible places to order from. One of the suggested shops was ********* *****. I thought I'd give it a shot. After ordering from them, via telephone, I was told that because of my location, I would have to fork out a pretty good chunk of change just to ship "small" parts to me (and I mean small....ie. bolts, bearings, tail boom, spindle...that sort of thing). They quoted $29.00 for shipping! Holy S***!! Since I needed the parts, I reluctantly completed the order.

I decided to send the parts to my sister in Washington state, which cost a meer $4.00 to send there. She in turn, sent it out to me via USPS Priority Mail for $7.00, insured and all. In total, $11.00 for shipping. A bit more reasonable.

What gives with some of these businesses? I am not on Mars (although "they" think so). I am not mentioning the shop's name because I know it does have good reputation with others but just the thought of getting taken for shipping is ridiculous.

I found another on-line business that services the Beam products and also ordered from there. This business (I will mention their name), Ready Heli, was very accomodating and had no problems sending to me here on Guam. (I guess they knew I was on the same planet )

Just needed to vent. Thanks . Now I'm off my soap box.

You should hear about some of the crazy questions I get when I tell them i'm from Hawaii.

"Do you guys live in huts?"
"Ohh really you don't surf?"
"I thought you were Hawaiian!" ---> Just because i'm from Hawaii doesn't mean i'm Hawaiian.

Yes born and raised!

No I dont' know Obama.

Nope never seen him in my life.

Wikipedia article says yes he was born there, but without a state of Hawaii sealed birth certificate.

No Obama cannot come back home! Are you crazy!

They probably either don't ship USPS or didn't know that Guam is a US territory. When I sent a USPS Priority Mail package to Guam the cost was the same as sending it to my next door neighbor.

you are lucky that the shop can actually ship out your stuff. some US shop won't even take my order when i told them where im at.

my advice, forget that shop. find another that deserve your custom.

readyheli, grand rc, heli proz, XXXmodels to mention a few are all great shops with good customer services.

So then, using your logic, all "real" Hawaiians live in Huts and Surf !!

Cool !!

Nope your logic is wrong. The term "Hawaiian" refers to an ethnic group.
You dont' call a white person who as born in China, a chinese person do you? Or a black person born in Russia, a Russian?

Nationality and ethinicity are two different things.
Ohh The surfing thing is just a stereotype. While it is true most of the the time, there are exceptions.

did you try putting together a mock order online just to confirm shipping? i would think their cart software is better at geography than a tele-salesperson.

I also did the on-line ordering. Thier site listed my location as International, even though we are a US Territory.

Ray I feel your pain. Some of the online shops don't have any way what so ever of dealing with APO (military) addresses. Some don't even recognize the zip code as valid.

I think some consider them "International" because, just like Guam they must fill out Customs forms even with USPS service.

Ray,

Hafa Adai! I was stationed at NAS Agana in 1974-75. It was tough to get stuff then too. I waited for over 2 months to get some small parts for my Austin Healey from J.C. Whitney. Paid more for shipping than the parts cost! Looks like little has changed.
