My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Just thought I'd introduce myself here on RR. I am relatively new to Aerial Photography, only having established my company in the last few months, but with the help of Rael at Choppershots, Robert at Birdseye, and of course Gerd with miniCopter, I can say that this build has been a complete joy. I thought I'd share a few pics of my new MJ3. This bird will be using a DJI XP3.1 system for stablization. Still waiting on the new MJ3 photo frame sets so that I can put a copterworks mount on the front.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Just keep an eye on the temperature of the ESC.
Covering the heat-spreader with foam might turn out counter-productive.
If you want to fix the ESC with tie-wraps, you could run those thru a piece of fuel tubing, providing you with a somewhat "soft mount".
This wouldn't block airflow as the foam does.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Actually, that foam is on the PCB. The heatsinks are actually making direct contact with the metal mount. Its not obvious from the pictures, but I cleaned off the black paint from the tray to make that much better thermal contact. Good idea on the fuel tubing though. I like that.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Ditch the CC ESC before it goes up in flames and takes your new maxi with it. There's a post in the Motors and Controllers forum today about one burning up in flight, happend to one of mine 2 years ago, Kontronik all the way since.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Yeah, I saw that post and pictures of yet another, but you have to choose one or the other and you have to admit that there were just as many reports of the thermal shutdown on the Jive 80+ HV. That problem, I believe, has been corrected, but my personal experience with CC controllers has been flawless and I own about 15 of them. Perhaps I don't abuse them. Perhaps I know how to program them, or perhaps I've just been damn lucky. I don't know. Or perhaps I just happened to have one leftover from my planks that I no longer fly...

I'll be pushing it hard enough with a dummy load before I risk the mount and camera for sure, but I would hope one would do that with any new setup.

If it makes you feel any better, I will certainly consider the Jive for the cinematography MJ2 that I'm also putting together.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I've had good luck with CC ESCs in planes also, I just wouldn't trust their HV range again. It's disappointing that they're still burning up all this time since they were launched.
With regard to the Jive, I heard about that too & put off purchasing one for a while as a result.
However the big differences are that 1. They solved the problem and 2. Thermal shutdown and thermal runaway are worlds apart!

I read somewhere that it was governor mode on the Castle ESCs that was a big factor when they explode, not sure if it's still relevant but perhaps it might be safer for you to stick to throttle curves if it is.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Thanks rvanr. It's running a DJI, but I have not yet tried auto yet. I only took the first few flights this past weekend getting it tracked in and trimmed. Now that I'm happy with that, I'll try the autopilot this weekend. I also hope to be using the DJI for gimbal control as well, but waiting on Robert at Birdseye to try it first.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		yeah i am using the Carvec system on my maxi joker 2 , but don't have a camera mount yet , the one you have from choppershots is amazing
it is not so easy for a novice like me to install the stalibisation gyro's and servo's , if anybody has schedules to do so please mail them to info@rvanr.com, my whole set up is taking to much time , the choppershots mount is nice but cost 2500 $ and needs a whole new airframe , maybe anybody has good alternative , i just welded a new aluminum landing gear/ large battery space which is high enough i think to integrated a camera mount on the front
let me see if i can upload a photo of that

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		a couple of things happened i felt , the receiver sometimes hurtled and the ship was to far a way , then it came back , went to the left and went behind a lower hill and then a big thump , i saw 1 piece of the blade come up behind the hill , that was a mayor crash , not one screw was straight anymore , so i left it

for me it was a try in aerial photography , but i feel it is to dangerous and instabel to fly in a crowded area anyway

so my next project will be a boomtruck to make pictures , for me that feels safer to shoot higher perspectives on a daily bases

but i wish you guys all the best in this , it is not for me i notice

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		yeah i found a dead-end road in Concord , open hills everywhere a good space , but the fields where surrounded with barbwire fence ... well the crash so loud , that the whole thing was a total loss ...
for me i want to make money with what i do ...and if this fying is not a reliable way to make money ..i an not gonna spend time rebuilding or selling it ...

the road is avila road in concord , at the end , it crashed behind the first hill on the right ...


i couldn't reach it , so i left it
