My Posts This: Topic Forum | Hi Guys,
I've just got my milli running again after a tip over.
After a few mins of hovering I got big tail vibes so i set it down. As it ran down all of a sudden the tailgear box started making a load of noise.
On closer inspection, the casing, on the rotor side, had cracked all the way through where the shoulder is to allow it to slide into the boom allowing the input gear to run out of true. Prior to this it was as smooth as silk so I know the tail rotor balance was ok... I'd checked this anyways before.
The shoulder is an obvious stress raiser but I inspected the box as I rebuilt it and packed it with grease, it looked fine. I've never seen this before but was wondering if this has happened to anybody else or whether it is a one off? Any ideas on cause? Perhaps I packed too much grease in there??
Any thoughts appreciated.
