There are several people on this forum who make parts.

I think someone just started making flybars.

If not, it was 1/8" drillrod, 18" long on the early versions, then 20" long on the later ones.

Possibly back to 18" after the introduction of the plastic paddles.

Look for posts by "gorhambirds". He is making quite a few of the hard to find items.

1/8 Drill Rod

Is that the same rod as you get in the hobby shop? If not where can you find drill rod and can you thread it.

Thanks

Check with Steve as he is making cricket parts ,,but not sure if he has flybars yet ...

The drill rod is softer than the piano wire found at the hobby store ... and yes you can thread it ,, you can try mc master carr ... online store for drill rod , if you order one day it is usally at your house by 1 or 2 days ,,,depending on how far you live from their local warehouse ,, or try a local machine shop ,,they might sell to you also .

Drill rod was the original material used when I worked at GMP in the summer of 1980.

Cricket Flybars

Gentlemen,

Yes I am making flybars. The originals, according to Gorham's drawing, were 18 inches. The shorter ones were 14 1/2 inches. I make reproductions of both. Send me a pm if you need them or send me an email. Thanks.

"The originals, according to Gorham's drawing, were 18 inches."

Agreed, but the later ones to support the wooden paddles were 20" and the machine was both more stable and more agile.

I am not sure what length they were when the transition was made to the plastic paddles (which were clones of the Heliboy paddles).

The originals were 18 inches with the wooden paddles. I have an original NIB kit with the 18 inch flybar and wooden paddles. The shorter flybar came out with the aerobatic head kit which then included the bushed head and the plastic paddles. All the earlier versions that I have owned with the wooden paddles had an 18 inch flybar. I've never seen a 20 inch flybar. However, I do have a new in package GMP flybar, part number C299, and it measures 19 inches! Never seen that one either.

Anyhow, I can make whatever length you need.

Steve,

I remember 20", but 19" may be correct.

It was 29 years ago.

This is slightly off subject, but I'd like to vouch for "gorhambirds" parts. I purchased a set of blade grips and a drive belt from him, both are excellent...I could not be happier. Thank you Steve!

Any chance we'll ever see a completely re-manufactured kit from you?

Thank you Nick, very much. And thanks to all my patrons. I can't explain the feeling I get when I can get someone back in the air. I quote the late, great, Mr. John Gorham when I say, "I want Crickets to fly, not just sit in the back of someone's garage, or someplace even worse". Believe it or not, that's what making the parts does for me. Thanks again fellows. Oh yeah, by the way. Tail booms are close! I'll let you know.
