New Spartan Quark Gyro

"The new Spartan Quark gyro is approaching its release date. This unit is very nice, it only measures 20×9mm and it is even easier to program than its predecessor. A new unit called “Fusion EDGE” will also be available in the very near future, which will allow for easy field programming, the original USB programming method is also compatible with the unit."

Hi guys

I installed mine in my Synergy today. This thing is SMALL !!!!!

Setup took about 5 min.... i had read the manual at work the night before.... at 37000' on the way back from Khartoum. Don't worry if you don't know where Khartoum is, you never really want to go there.

The servo arm and pushrod where setup from a Spartan 760, so my setup for the Quark was super easy.

The wires are MUCH shorter than the Spartan 760, so i was forced to mount it in the front, as i didn't want to use extension cables.

I had my 760 mounted at the back, on the rear gyro mount and my governor on the forward gyro mount. For the Quark, i needed to move my governor to free up the forward gyro mount..... this took about 5 times longer than the rest of the installation/setup.... but i am a little bit of a perfectionist with my wiring.

For the moment, i have left the 760 on the rear mount (unplugged) as i will try the Quark in my other helis too.

Will hopefully go fly tomorrow. Will report back.

Regards
Paul

The Quark gyro is approaching its release date. Providing no issues are reported with the pre-release units production is expected to start next week with the shipments leaving our offices by Dec 4.

Hi guys

Just got in from a Seychelles turnaround (airline talk for a 'there and back' trip)..... Been a long night.

More to the point, how is the Quark ?????

......in one word 'fantastic'

I did one test flight with the Quark mounted on the front gyro mounting position on my Synergy. It was terrible. The plastic radio tray just is too flexible.....

I went home and moved the gyro to the 'proper' place, down at the back where the gyro is supposed to be. It needed 2 extension cables.

The test flights the next morning were a total transformation. The gyro is rock solid, just like my Spartan 760..... much more like what i was expecting.

The default settings are spot on. The starts and stops are fast, but not to fast to hurt the heli. There is no 'bounce' in the piro stops, in either direction.

These 'out the box' settings are, in my mind, much better than the 'out the box' settings on the 760. The Synergy's tail is very aggressive and on the 760 i needed to program via my PC a delay in both acceleration ( one notch ) and in deceleration ( two notches ).

The piro's are very consistent.

I love this gyro. It will not be coming off for a while.

I will report back after more testing and a good nap....

Regards
Paul

Hi guys

I have had another 3 outings with my Synergy and Quark.

The gyro is fantastic.

I am still learning A LOT about 3D.....and if i 'overload' my stick inputs and bog the rotor rpm down, the gyro still seems to give the same constant piro rate and i can just unload the head and keep flying through the maneuver. I need to swop back to the 760 to see if it is the same.... I cant recall it being this good!!!!

I am going to try make a 'rear style' gyro mount on the front of my Synergy. I will then be able to loose the extension wires.

I helped my good friend Tareq Al Saddi install and setup his Quark gyro in a TRex 700. It took about 10 min at the field....

I watched him have 2 flights on the machine. On the second flight, i am sure he was trying to destroy the heli..... He was doing his usual low down hard flying BUT with extra left/right/left/right thrown in on the tail all the time, just to see if the gears would break or the gyro would 'let go' or the piro rate would change or maybe just for fun.....who knows.

He gives it a big thumbs up. I will try get our 'camera man' to get a video together in the next few days. Thanks George.....

Regards
Paul
