Bergen R/C Helicopters > Bergen EB Observer Pitch Range Issue

Just putting the finishing touches to my Bergen EB Observer.

The manual indicates I should get +12 to -6 degrees pitch. I am only getting about +9.5 degrees while maintaining -6 degrees pitch.

The mechanical problems I have encountered is;

1/ Aileron servo bottoms out on the Tail Boom.
2/ Anti-rotation pins on mixing arm assembly prevent any higher pitch.
3/ The sleeve on the mixing arm assembly is only about 1mm from contacting the bottom of the head block.

I have maximised travel by locating all the linkage balls in the best position to gain as much travel as possible.

Can anyone advise if the manual is wrong or suggest anything as I would like to find the extra pitch just in case it is needed. (eg. low density altitude flights/high payload)

To Much Travel

I fly an EB aswell, large servo travel does cause the above problems but you will never need this much travel, my problem is the flybar hitting the pan servo pulley, i have temporarily fixed this by fitting a large cable tie through gap above flybar. Awesome machine mate, once set up runs like a well oiled sewing machine.

Id rather be on the ground wishing i was in the air than in the air wishing i was on the ground.

My servo travel is OK and it has not been necessary to adjust my EPA's.

I guess you mean the Paddle hits the Pan servo. I don't seem to have this problem but will take a very close look at it.

Do you think that about 9.5 degrees pitch is enough with a full payload?

I think the manual says that the upper link measurements (well any of them for that matter ) are only a starting point ... you can and will have to adjust them to get your desired pitch range . I don't own /nor ever have flown the observer ,,but would guess that carrying the extra load of camera and other equipment ,,, you would want to go for the full amount ,,, just in case you need it down the road in a less than perfect flight condition .

I have adjusted all links to give maximum travel while keeping everything square and perpendicular.

As indicated I seem to be up against some mechanical stops. I may just need to reduce my bottom end pitch a little and add it to the top.

Can you post some pictures ??? might help to see what you are up against ... cause the setup isn't much different than other Bergen's and we can get -11 to +11 easy.

I am going to IRCHA in a few days and will talk with Chris for you , as he don't come around this forum much and try to get you an answer especially when I know he is really busy getting things around and out before the funfly .

SOLVED

I did end up emailing Chris about this. He got back to me straight away offering help. My request was simply to confirm the Pitch Range I could expect, to which he replied again immediately.

I prefer to find solutions myself before enlisting too much help. This way I learn something. Anyway, Chris's high level of service never seems to let up.

THE SOLUTION:

I neglected to check my Cyclic Range. I had available between 6 to 8 degrees on Cyclic. Guessing this could be a bit much as I am doing aerobatics with 5 degrees on other helis I own.

So all I had to do was to dial back the Observer's cyclic to 5 degrees which then allowed me to lower the Swash Plate closer to the Upper Mainshaft Bearing Block. With doing this I could adjust the Mixing Linkages to give me -6 to +12 degrees at the blades.

Thank you to those that posted in an effort to help.

Regards,
Warren.
