Calling all phoenix experts!

My Phoenix Creator (ver2) keeps crashing when I go to save or import a new flying field. I get the same error in the crash log: ERROR: Could not write water mask
What is that all about? This happens weather or not I go through the complete process of creating a new flying field. I have managed to create a semi functional field that I can fly in, but I can't save or retrieve the file that contains the collisions for further editing. At that point the program crashes.

I have not had a response back from phoenix support regarding this issue. I was hoping someone on RR would have a solution.
Yes, I have installed the latest graphic card drivers and the Phoenix Creator software was re-installed twice. Operating system is windows XP and runs the flight sim just fine....
Please help!!!

Will do thanks.

Could someone here try to create a new flying field and try to save the work in progress to see if it crashes? I'm wondering if it has something to do with my system or if it's a bug in the program...

Hi OT,

I have tried creating a flying site and saving it different stages and it was ok.

Version 2.00.b

A few questions ...

1. Do you have anything unusual in the install e.g. strange user name? strange drive letters? install location?

2. When you un-installed the program did you check to see if any folders containing anything had been left behind and delete them if there is anything ?

3.which graphics card and drivers do you have installed ?

4.which version of direct x do you have installed ?(how to find out)

Nemo,

Good to hear it works on your system! That's a start. Something is up on my PC.

Okay:

1. No, install is under program files with no strange drives or names.
I have tried to save files in different folders within phoenix with the same results:
C:\Program Files\PhoenixRC\resources\OT
C:\Documents and Settings\OT\My Documents\PhoenixRC\Projects

2. No, I first tried the download option to repair or update the creator files. This did not improve anything.
I then re-installed the creator but did not first un-install the program.

3. Graphics card is a GeForce 6600 gt with its latest drivers.

4. Direct X 9c,

I do have an NVIDIA control panel running that can be configured for different games. Don't know what to look for there...

I added the Phoenix Creator to the NVIDIA control panel and changed a few settings and now it works!!!
I changed some texture filtering options amongst other things I have no clue about for the graphics card.

Now at least I can save out the program and make changes to my panos.

So this leads to my next question... how do you change the ground plane to simulate a slope? My ground extends too far into the horizon. I need to slope it down or cut it? Any I ideas on how to do this?

When you insert the ground plane you can rotate it. If you hold down CTRL the transformation gizmo should change to rotate.

nemo,

Thanks for the info! Now how do you trim the ground plane so it does not extend beyond certain elements on the horizon?
Also, on my sloped ground plane how do I add the collisions such as trees etc... ?
I'm trying to learn this program. Any help is much appreciated!

Okay, here is one of my current problems creating a custom field in phoenix creator:
I'm having a hard time with "scale". A 450 size heli looks like a 90! I can't get the perspective right. I have tried re-sizing the "distance helper" with no luck. I'm only guessing that that is the tool to use.
Also, my DDS files end up being large. More like 7 mb instead of the 2049 kb shown on all the native DDS files. Does the image size for the panos make a difference on the total scale of the modeling environment?

Anyone know how to use the distance helper???

Hi OT45,

My understanding is that the yellow arrow <---> represents by default 1m so to correctly scale your scene you need to line it up with something in your panorama that is 1m.

You can use the red arrow to move left / right and the blue to move forward / back. If you have something in your scene that you know the size of (other than 1m) you can change the size of the helper by holding down CTRL and clicking on the green square.

I tried sliding the distance helper to different locations along the ground grid with no noticeable improvements in scale. I'm doing something wrong here?
Can the ground grid be changed in size?
