Slick flying sir! I saw your build thread on ERCHA and was wondering when you would get it out flying =). Will you be going to the Sept ERCHA FunFly or the Area51 Non-fun.. umm.. unfun.. ummmm.... fun non-fly... ahhh.. the "We are not having a fun fly, fun fly!"? =). I just got an X50 from Hi-Flight and am hoping to get it up and running by then.

Hope to see you there! BTW, just for your's and Frank's info, Demtri would be a major reason that I got the RJX (That and my desire to be different!). I have never met him, but knowing that RJX has a pilot of his caliber in my city makes the purchace decision just that much easier =).

I guess that it will be just general flying weekend at Area51. I think that I go to ERCHA's fun fly at Saturday, and at Sunday I will be at Area51 field.

Are You that guy who posted pictures of new X50 at Area51 forum?
You should visit Area51 field someday. Most of the time you can find me there, if weather is good of course. I could share with you few important X50 build tips.

for sure! I actually pop down there quite a bit. Ussually at lunch time to see if anyone is out and flying. The field sits almost exactly between my office on 182st and the one at 215th =). So far haven't seen anyone out there quite yet, but I am sure that I will sooner or later.

Yup, I am the one who posted the pics on Area51. I could definatly use the tips! Next nice day I shall load up the heli in the car and take a jet down to the field after work. Getting CCPM servos tomorrow I figure. I am thinking of useing Hitec RCD High Resolution High Torque HS7955TGs.. They have really impressive torque.. but is that what I really need? There are faster servos on the market but with 3 times less torque. There are just waaaay to many servo choices! Also, do you know anyone.. anywhere that has a Mikado V-Bar in stock? So far every store I have looked at in North America is out of stock. I can get the SKOOKUM FBL unit at great hobbies, but I am having a hell of a time finding any real reviews of it (other than the video posted at BF Carbon that is..). Do you have any experience with either of the units?

Usually I am flying after 5pm during workweek. On weekends I can show up at the field at any time: in the morning, after noon, or in the evening.

I would recommend HS7940, if you considering buying Hitec servos. They have lots of torque and they are very fast.
I don’t have any exp with flybarless units. But I would choose V-bar. It is 3 axis unit. There are lots of guys in GP who are using this unit. They say that V-bar gyro works better than any gyro on the market. SK-360 is only 2 axis unit. You will need to buy gyro separately.

Check readyheli.com. They should have V-bar in stock.

I have added the vbar on the X90 and you can look at that on the Edmheli.ca website.

I have a second one that I am planning to put on the 50, but the real estate on that is fairly limited on where you can mount your electronics. I plan on tackling that once I get the X90 tuned in, or it may go onto the future gasser as well.

Lifepak.. I thought *I* was being picky when I was using a micro metre to measure things.. never even THOUGHT of using a laser level! Damn good idea! I shall have to pick one up (now that Dmitry pointed out that i need to redo the servo horns).

Thanks agian Dmitry for your advice and help at the field the other day. Looks like I am going to have to live with the slower servos for a while. Can't take them back after I drilled the holes for the ball joints.

Gonna be picking up my RX/TX this weekend and the V-Bar is on the way! Soon I shall be crashing.. er.. flying!!

I would also like to thank Lifepak for the awsome build thread! Dude.. THAT should be the manual! Never would have figured out what they changed the CCPM standouts too if you haddn't posted it.

Thanks again for the instructions. I am using them to dial indicate everything that I can =). Wish the CCPM leavers were a tad longer so that I could put turnbuckles on them for the 50 like you have for your 90. I have them on the swash arms right now, do you think it would be a good idea to use them for the servo arms? Or is that just overkill?

I currently am running into issues trying to balance the fan. I got the metal fan for my heli and I have put a magnet in for the engine governor. The issue is that the weight of the magnet seems to be too small to measure a difference in weight between one side and the other side of the fan. I have tried putting it on a dowl and letting it roll, but I get inconsistant results. There are two holes in the fan for magnets, in the other I stuck in a screw and bolt, do you think that will be enough to balance out the weight of the rare magnet? I don't really want to pry the silly thing out to weigh it, but will if I absolutly have too. Will that small of a weight difference seriously unbalance the metal fans and cause much vibration? I really do want to keep that down (Rather have the energy used for flying instead of shaking =)). It seems a pretty small weight in comparison to the fan itself.

If the screw isn't enough, how baddly will the sensor readings be messed up if I just put a second magnet in there? Would I just have to devide the readings by half to get a correct RPM read-out? That would be a small price to pay to remove as much vibration as posible.

Any suggestions would hugly help.

The magnets will only trigger the sensor if it is the correct polarity. Mount the second magnet in the reverse polarity as the first and it will balance your fan and not trigger the sensor.

In regards to the pushrod linkages. Stock links can only be inserted with the logo out, so it takes one turn to make fine adjustments to the length of the pushrod. If you use Rocket City links, it doesn't matter which direction they mount to the ball. It gives you a finer adjustment of 1/2 turns and that should be enough to get it dialed in.
