HIROBO Turbulence - SDX - Freya - Sceadu > Hirobo SDX Throttle link hits canopy on SDX

Henrik EngertKey Veteran - Location: Cedar Park, TX - My Posts This: Topic  Forum
My throttle link hits the canopy on my SDX. Also the right side of the main gear hits the canopy if looking from behind.

I can solve the problem with the throttle link by either mounting the link on the inside or cutting material away from the canopy.

I can only solve the gear problem by cutting away material from teh canopy.

Any other people has had this problem?

Yes, I understand. Just wanted to know if this is normal? Or I somehow screwed up the build...

I am afraid if I take of material (the edge that is sticking out) that I will weaken the canopy, and when I remove the canopy after a flight it will bend and ruin the canopy.

U could always put some spacers behind the canopy posts to push them out further to clear the main gear, a friend I fly with did this and it seems to work fine.

Canape mounts

Double check your mounting hole locations. they should be the ones toward the rear of the canape.
maybe one is off slightly this would cause your troubles.

Not much else to do than trimming the canopy. I mean, then main gear including it's location is very fixed on the heli so not much can be changed there. You only need to trim away enough to clearly stay away from the "obstacles", you needn't remove the whole rim at the back of the canopy you know. Yes, it will weaken the canopy slightly but as long as you don't trim excessively there is nothing to worry about.

Funny though, my SDX don't exhibit either of these problems and I do have the throttle linkage on the outside same as you have. I do have the Quick UK throttle arm on my Hyper but it's dimensions are the same as the original plastic arm so nothing there.

My SDX's left side

(For the record, I didn't by the bling throttle arm for its sake of being just that, bling. All my regular dealers were out of original O.S. throttle arms but one of them had this in stock so there... )

I trimmed the canopy. I tripple checked the mounting holes, they are in the correct position. So, this is weird.

I did trim unnecessarily too much, but it seems to be fine, hey I am saving weight

How about getting a smaller engine, perhaps a .37 or even a .21 ???

Just kiddin'...I will put my OS50 in my SDX anyday now, so I'll see if it gets close for me.

Hey AAKEE, With your 20-20 vision (you are a chopper pilot after all...) you should be able to eyeball that without mounting any engine...

Sorry Henrik for messing with your thread!

If you put the ball on the inside of the arm, will it clear the shroud?

Or, take a Futaba 6 pointed star arm and sand the little boss off the front side. Mount it with the screw coming in from the backside to the carb's barrel in place of the stock arm. Since that arm has no boss on the back like the OS arm, the arm will sit closer to the carb, it'll move the ball in enough to clear the canopy.

That's ok. I have already trimmed the canopy for my second flight tomorrow (if I can get myself up before temp hits 100)...

That is strange. I do not have this problem, and I am using all factory parts. Do you modify anything?
