| ok here is a lesson for everyone if you are going to use the raptor tail gearbox. There are some assembly instructions in the angle tail drive adapter that you purchase for the cobra, see the picture below.
The red arrow points to the set screw in the end of the shaft that becomes the locking feature for the gear pin. When installed, that set screw goes way deep into that shaft. Deep enough to make you forget later on that you installed it. So I had installed 2 of them, and when there are 2 installed the last one sticks out of the end of the shaft, past the gear and it hits the spacer tube inside the gearbox.
When the gearbox halves are screwed together, the pressure on the spacer tube caused by the set screw is enough to actually force the white plastic gears apart from eachother, barely making contact. With the gears running like this its only a matter of 5 runs or so and they eat themselves alive. There was a bunch of white powder inside when I opened up the gearbox halves.
So new parts installed and it feels a lot smoother, and the black gearbox halves seem to fit better now too. Hopefully this does the trick, I'll be flying this weekend.
