Well decided to fly today. First tank no problems, everything look good . Blade tracking dead on. Decided to up headspeed as it seem a little slow. All was good finished first tank. Filled her up and 3/4 was through second tank the blades went way out of track. Well I guess it wasn't the pitch servo. What could it be? Radial bearings and thrust bearings all good. New spindle, Some new links. No slop in head. Have i missed something? Any other suggestions. Does the Raptor require hi-tech servos? It if does then maybe I need to buy all 9452's and be done with it. I can't believe how new of a heli it is and has never been crashed and giving me this much grief. Any other suggestions??

I can see flipping the grips would help with the woof problem. But If this was a known problem with engineering. I believe thunder tiger would have engineer a kit that would be given as option to improve the head.

When kyosho came out with the caliber 30, it had to different head configurations. One config allowed you to fly the trailing edge of the blade and one config for the lead edge. The trail edge was said to make the heli easier to fly for the novice and lead edge config was for the intermediate or advance pilot. When I first built the caliber I had it set up in the novice and later converted it to the intermediate setting. In either configuration I never had any blade tracking problems. So to make a long story short I am having a hard time understanding why flipping the grips would stop the woof.

I believe that there are many things that will cause the blades to all of sudden go out of Track. I also believe do to the design of the Raptor pitch control that you should have a fairly high torque servo as there is alot of pressure placed upon it. Some heli's use ccpm, this divides the pressure among 3 servos. The raptor utilizes one servo for each job. Also when you just learning to hover the load on the pitch servo is not nearly as great and you are able to get away with less expensive servos. Now that I am entering into forward flight I am putting more of a strain on the pitch servo. Just my two cents worth.

With that being said. I believe after further inspection I have found the screw that holds the pitch arm on the servo had loosen and allowed the servo arm to move causing excessive play in the collective. I have tighten the screw and applied a drop of CA on it to prevent this from happening again. I also plan to purchase a better pitch servo. The futaba 3010 that I am using presently as a sub may not have enough muscle to get the job done. And could even end with the same problem as the 9202 that was previously installed. It's time to call my lhs and see if they have a better servo for the job at hand. Anyways that where I am going to start. Thanks for everyones good advice!!

Are you sure the thrust bearings are installed in the correct direction?

5hit happens..............they flipped the new 50, that should tell you something. Who cares why things are/were that way so long as the not so isolated/not so common problem is deleted with the modeler finally happy, really that's all what counts. If the method meets the end need, I always say.

I went ahead a replaced the futaba 3010 with a Hitec HS-645MG High-Torque 2BB Metal Gear Servo. It's design for the 60 size heli. My local lhs recommended it. Flew 3 tanks of fuel, aprox 30 minutes of flight no woof. Like the gentleman said in the last post as long as the modeler is happy that's all that counts. I was able to leave it in the stock form. Maybe Thunder tiger will come up with a upgrade to the new se head. They have a upgrade to convert the 50 pro to the standard titan. Why not the se! If they do I am buying one. Well, thanks again to everyone that helped. I am always grateful.

Any slop or play between the collective servo to the head can give you problems. This includes warn dampers, loose linkages, warn servo gears, poor servo mounting and even a 'soft' servo horn. One of the weaknesses of the TT design is the lack of pivot supports without which, undue stress is placed particularly on the collective servo.
Correcting delta can cure the problem but most likely it just disguises the cause, not that this is necesseraly a bad thing !

And there it is. l have never even heard of a flipped Raptor woofing dont even think it can. You can spend on metal heads if you wont or you can spend an hour doing a grip flip.

Flybars. Who needs `em.
