I'm looking to start my first scale project and am looking at the Century Bell 222 with Trex 700 mechanics... I would really like to get a Bo-105 but Vario is all I can find and I'm not paying $1100 for a fuse.

Anyway, my main question is about fitment. Will the 700 mechanics fit in the 222 fuse? What problems or issues might I run into when fitting this?

As I said, this will be my first scaler so I am unfamiliar with fitting a fuse to mechanics. I have been flying 3D for awhile and want to broaden my horizons a bit with a scale machine.

Saw one of the Century versions fly at our club Fun Fly last week. He had TREX 600e mechanics in it - my guess is that the 700 would be both to tall and long to fit that fuse. I did some quick research as I also liked the looks of that bird. Does not fit my Raptor Titan 50 without modifications. Hope this helps a little.

Bell 222

Nick, the 60-90 size Bell 222 fuse. is 60" long, 16.5" wide and 10" tall, it does use 690-710 blades, the main problem you would have is the height issue with the mechanic's, what is the height of the mechanic's? maybe you should ask someone who has a fuse what the inside height is of the fuse. This does sound like a cool project though. Good luck Chief

The 600E fits into the 50 size 222, with no problems. If I were to build another, I would use the 60/90 size fuselage with the 600 mechanics. I would use a 700 boom and torque drive. This will probably fit perfectly; if not you can cut the 700 boom to any size you want.
In my opinion, the Century 60/90 fus. are better suited to 50 size mechanics. I built a Sea king for a friend; it has plenty of power for scale, with 600E mechanics.

I've also built a 60 size Century Jet Ranger with 600E mechs and 700 boom and TT. It's a great combination, just make sure you get the correct kV motor and gearing for the headspeed you want to run.

Good idea to use the 600E mechanics... Cheaper too!

Does the 222 use the mechanics tail boom then or is it a wire drive?

you use what ever tail drive you wish that will work with the mechanics
i don't know about the later 222 60/90 size shell but my older one is quite small for a 60 size model, as it isn't very wide or tall to fit the mechanics
i've got a morley f1-69 in it and i have no room around the mechanics
from what i remember from my 700 it may be to tall for the body
and do you realy want to keep pulling the 700 mechanics out when a main gear fails?
i would look at the vario skyfox or the graupner uni-mechanics for the 222
or go for a 50 size with a raptor or 600 in it

I am leaning toward the 600E in there. I didn't realize that would fit but I like that idea and the price better. The only thing is charging the batteries. I doesn't look easy to take a lipo in and out of there.

BTW, I have a 700 that I have been beating on (3D) for about 4 gallons now with a mod 1 main gear and gforce clutch block and the gear is still perfect.

my first gear lasted ages on the 700
i then started having problems
i fitted the 4 axis ali clutch block, modified for adjustable mesh and a third mainshaft bearing but still with the std main gear as the mod 1 hadn't come out, after many main gears going the last straw was 2 in a weekend, the second went on its second flight
i sold the 700 and bought a d3
for scale you need a reliable mechanics
as for fitting the lipo's in a hughes 500 is easier as it has more room
with the 600e i still would go with the 50 size body

Definitely don't want a Hughes 500, everyone and their brother has one... And I want a bigger model than a 50 size...

The fuse in question is the Century Bell 222 60 size... Unless you can find me a Bo-105, that is what I want.

wings, I have done the 60 size 222 with a stretched 600e and it works just fine. Getting the lipo in and out isn't a big deal either. I did have to make a few wood formers to mount the mechanics to but it wasn't anything major. If you decide to go that route I can get you pics of the woodwork, boom length, etc.

On the 50 size , I installed the front windshield with magnets. I used the miniature governor sensor magnets. They are strong but a little pricy. I recessed the magnets so you would swear that the windshield was glued in. You could pop it out in a second and slide the battery in with no problem.

i am pondering the idea of an electric t-rex 600 in a century 50 size airwolf, sounds like a few of you have done this heli, with the 222, any advice for me? what kind of wood formers did you have to make?
