Guys,

What is the maximum head speed I can run safely on a Raptor 90 3D with CY blades and TT metal grips?

Yeah...

To high and you may just break your con rod... I have seen it happen.

You need to set it for your engines peak RPM using the gearing your using.

Forgot to mention. Using a OS 91 HZ 11T Pinion and 91T gear. I can move up to a 12T pinion to lower the engine RPM.

Well

That engine puts out 3.4H @ 15000/8.27 = 1813

Max or practical RPM 16000/8.27 = 1934

So roughly 18-1900rpm

If your gunning for a particular (HS Engine RPM / Head speed )and see if you can get a close gear ratio.

I personally think 1900 is high enough for a 90....

8.27 (11/91) and 1900 on the head is fantastic on that bird assuming you have a good pipe.
I am running the SB18/1900 and love it.

Hi guys, I got an elevated RC 90 tooth gear to try out with an 11 tooth pinion & to bring down the engine rpm a little. I still have to swap it in though.
I have been running 1950 rpm on a 91 tooth gear all the time before though. Work quite well (1950rpm x 8.2727 = 16132rpm)

has anyone tried the 90 tooth gearing 8.18 ratio(1950rpm x 8.1818= 15954rpm)before? Results/opinions?

I've been using it for a couple weeks. I like about 1940 with my SR engine. Good pop, and loads of power.

Yes, if it's properly setup I think you'd have to damage the motor before you'd scatter the head. As others have stated, 1900rpm is a good place to be if you are beating on it pretty good. I'm running significantly less and for my mild tumbling it's plenty. It is nice that the componentry is matched up so well to the available power.

rpms

most of the team guys including myself run our Hz motors at 1940 on 8.27 one thing to remember is we keep our heads loaded for the flight if you are unloading the head to much you will hurt the motor, so if your not beating the hell out of your R90 1900 works great one thing to remember is tuning the motor for your flying style is very important and will make all the differance how you fly the heli and how it flys

Brian 1940 you are using the 90 tooth main on the 11 tooth pinion for 8.18 with that motor.

OOPS! I should have made that clear, yes I'm using an aftermarket (Elevated R/C) 90 tooth main gear and 11 tooth pinion.. 1940 is likely on the brink of disaster, perhaps I'll lower it just a tad...
