nice flying, awesome looking rig.
Did you make the tail conversion, or is that a Minicopter upgrade?

If you bling it, they will come :D

Final design of the Tailmotor. The shaft is of course available as spare.

Gerd

Can a flat spot be added to the shaft for the set screw to grab onto?

#1667 with the flat spot. Really bad work, the shafts from Pletti are extremely hard!

Thanks Gerd.

I didn't do a clean job either. I used a Dremel tool to flatten a spot. Probably best to make a jig or something.

And spare shaft with the black aluminium shield and the four small screws is #1668, not much more expensive than a regular tailshaft

the black aluminum shield does what?
the online catalog image for #1668 is a programming card?
does the #1667, Dual Drive 4s motor come with the extended shaft?
I see in the above post you say it has a flat spot. So I'm assuming it does, I'm just trying to visualize the Dual Drive motor application with a long shaft for the Torque tube drive.
Thanks.

Here some pics of "repair". You need only a small hammer and a Philips screwdriver and some Loctite for the screws for assembly.

Shop edited, thanks. Dualdrive motor comes with extended shaft and flat spot.

Is there really an advantage to have a motor for the tail or is it just a different but not worse/better way of doing it?

Gerd

That is awesome. Thanks!

Damaen

Basically, consistent RPM for both head and tail.

If you watch the videos, that's at 24lbs at 1250 head speed. Try it for yourself with a normal setup. You'll know what I mean.

no static electricity from a boom belt or bearings in a torque tube.
no spraying the belt with WD-40 for anti-static treatment.
easier to dis-assemble and re-assemble if you have limited room for transport, (that is no adjusting the tightness of the belt.)
dual power supply for the Rx if you tap off each battery for the Rx power.
possible longer flight time as load on main battery is reduced.
able to use the boom as a weed-whacker.

Nooobs,
What size t/r blades are you using now? I thought I remember you were using 105mm before you put the front mount camera on?
With the the separate t/r speed now I think you can basically adjust to accommodate a few different sizes.

Steve

I was trying out various sizes... 105, 110, 120, 130.

They're 120 now.
