I am looking for advice on which Scorpion hk 3026 v2 will be best for my trex 500. Is the 1600kv a good choice? Will it work with the stock align 60 amp speed controller, or do I need the Scorpion 90 amp switching bec speed contoller since the max draw is 70 amps. Is the 13 tooth pinion still going to work ( I am running about 2600 rpm head speed with my stock setup)? I see a lot of info on motor choices, and see a lot of comments on ESC's, but haven't found much on the killer combos. I am interested in what combos you guys are running. Summers here, and my stock 500L motor runs a little to hot for my taste. Thanks in advance.

1600kv with stock motor will give you just as much power as the stock motor. However, with Scorpion motor it will come down much coller compare to the stock one.

If you want the most powerful setup you should go with the 1400KV motor / 14 pinion with a higer voltage / amp ESC will give you the killer power

I am obviously not an electrician, so I will assume a lower kv motor will have lower RPM but higher torque to pull the 14 tooth at about the same head speed? That explains the need for the higher amp esc.(I am talking to myself). Does it make sense to stay with Scorpion for both motor and esc, or is there a better choice for esc?

How many mah are you putting back in after 4.5 min? I have two outrage 3000 25c packs that I put between 2100 and 2300 mah after 5m 20s. I have four Hyperion vx 2600 35c that have noticably more "poop"
and come down barely warm and charge at 4 amps in 30 to 35 minutes. The point is that I may not be at a point in my skill level (I fly more like Finless Bob than Alex Szabo) to appreciate the extra power.
My biggest deal is not wanting to wait 10 to 15 minutes between flights for the motor to cool down. I can always start out with the 1600, add the cc HV45 later, and then swap out the motor to the 1400 and sell the 1600 used.
Thanks
Lance

Best Motor:)

What you want is the Neu 1905H/1.5y

CRAZY power and never gets even remotely hot...I can fly 7 back to back flights without a hiccup no problem...other than worrying about crashing that is

I love Scorpions but the Neu is a step about the Scorpion...

Here's what it looks like

BTW...I get 4 minutes of Hard 3d flying with a 2500mah pack at 2900Rpm's

I get 5 minutes from the 6s 3000mah setup

Jag72 after using the 1706 I'm starting to question if the 1905 is overkill or not... that's a lot of extra weight to add to the 500 is what concerns me the most. With the Mikado 18, 19 or 20 tooth on the 1706 I believe I will be making similar headspeed and power with possibly half the weight. I'll have to try one out to know for sure I guess

1905H

The weight is NOT a factor

Trust me...the 1905 only actually weighs 23grams more than the stock 500 motor...

I am using a 17t pinion also

governing it with a jazz80 ESC at about 2900....I was spinning well over 3000rpm's originally but it was too insane to handle...

I had to squash my curve...I probably should actually drop to a 16t pinion and raise my curve back up....

but it flies so nice I have no reason to change it right now..

You can't mount the 1706 or 1905 without grinding down the frame to the motor mount.

Jag I'll weigh the 1706 I'd bet I'm saving at least 3oz over the 1905...

Fitting the NEU

It took me about 15 minutes to get this motor to fit...you do need to grind/dremel a Very small amount of useless carbon from the frame near the motor mount..no biggie though

then you need to chop the base plate in 2 pieces and remove the plastic around the motor....it's fine as it has no structural relevance..

Foster...even if you are 3 oz lighter I'm betting the 1905 still makes lots more power ...enough to compensate for 3 ounces...a couple of ounces on a machine like this is really not a factor..I have over 100 flights on this setup and it is INSANE ...I have had to actually tame it down a bit ..

I'm sure the 1706 would be fine for most people also though
Here's the bottom of my heli

I wouldn't worry about the overall weight of a motor as much as I would worry about the power to weight ratio. Just shoehorn a 4020-1100 Scorpion and be done with it!

Thank you guys for all the input. I whimped out and ordered the 1600kv Scorpion and will run on my stock speed controller for a while. I have been in contact with a Firefighter that flies at the AMA field I go to that has the Neu and just loves it. At the rate I am racking up flights, that upgrade wont be far off

Motor is in-spooled it up in the driveway. Seemed like a LOT more head speed. I will be at the field at 7:30 in the am. for the cherry breaking. I am surprised that the Scorpion has such strong magnets. When I got my stock motor out, I could grab the shaft and give it a spin with little to no effort. Hope I can sleep tonight!

It makes me feel good that everything you guys share for info is spot on for accurate. Nine flights in- power seems slightly better than the stock motor when it was new. 5m 20s of flight time and it is barely warm to the touch. I could probably go back to back with no problem. I wish I would have taken the motor apart before I installed it as I am not sure exactly where the smaller bearing is to oil. I am assuming it it through the bottom vent hole next to the windings. My heat issue is gone, and that is what I wanted.
My Icharger 106b+ is on the way so I can charge my Hyperions in 15-18
minutes. Sounds like alot of flyin!!!

If anyone out there could get a picture of exactly where they are applying the oil to the lower bearing, I would forever be in your debt!
