I am on the second engine breakin (re-ring after case gasket replaced) in my spectra G and I'm sure I still don't have it fully broke in but here is my question.
I have been breaking it in without the canopy on and it seem to fly great. Today I took it to a funfly and first flight out with the canopy it seemed to be bogging a little. This did not make sense so I took the canopy off an flew again and no bog, seemed like its fine again.I repeated this twice.
I never noticed this on the first engine and don't understand whats going on. Im hopeing some of you guys have ran into this.

stock spectra g, Hanson 3D Max, round CF air-filter & V-4 muffler. Wally fan and running cool, plug looks good, med brown with a little black on one side.
1 gal of ashless 4.5oz:1 set rich, then 1 gal of amsoil @ 4oz:1, now on 3rd gallon @ 3.5oz:1
Any ideas

Hmmm

Any chance you can wax the canopy to cut down the drag?

I've used Rain-X on my airplanes to create a "teflon" like coating. It is very slippery once dried, much more so than any automotive wax.

Bogging

Can you check the engine temp with the canopy fitted?Might be heat related.Be carefull if this is the cause, you dont want to "toast" your motor.

Team- unbiased opinion,no experts here just trying to help thats all.K.I.S.S principle upheld here

Could it be possible you just didn’t let the engine warm up enough before the first flight.

I was going to video the performance today at the fun-fly but my camera decided to crap out.

I does not seem to be getting any hotter , the linkage is not rubbing.
engine is always allowed to warm up and it seems to get slightly worse after several minutes. if I take the canopy off all seems fine.

I did not notice this with my first engine and its the same canopy.
I had several guys at the club today trying all kinds of thing and everyone just stood there going "it does not make sense"
I put over 1/2 gal through it today. its just weird but very noticable.

This might not pay any relation to your problem but I was having problems with the new 231 in my 600 conversion and it turned out the hot draft from the fan was heating the fuel in the carb and causing the heli to bog and if I continued to fly it would suffer fuel starvation, just maybe the canopy is directing the heat on to the carb and giving you the same problem,
