12 years old, sorry my bad.
I'm an engineer, so measure the volts. Check all connections, replace battery if required, check connections/soldering and so on. If your feeling in a jovial WTF mood, then get a new Tx and move on. However, your Tx will have one tiny weeny incy bitsy fault somewhere. Do you want to look for it ?

If you temporarily apply voltage from a power supply before you remove the old battery, you will not lose the programming. Of course if it's already gone because the battery went dead, then you'll probably need to recalibrate and re-program.

There are also other parameters in the system menu that will need to be set, such as mode, language, etc.

re-program I can do. But how dose one recalibrate it?
With a base ball bat or gun? Maybe a big truck drive over it? Or maybe have some drop it from a heli.lol
I'm think it not going to make back to the heli it was program for? As I said few posts up. I will not send it back to be fix again by horizon. heli cost to much just to trust some one who fix it many time in 2 years. Not to say how many times, But I'm not a golfer

Frankly, I'm not sure how much, if any, calibration data would be stored in the battery backed NVM in this old radio.

My gut tells me that you'd lose you model setup stuff for the six different models, but may not lose the basic radio calibration info.

The 662 is a fairly plain vanilla radio that does airplanes and helis with a few bells and whistles.

I suppose while I had mine apart for the pics, I should have stuck my voltmeter on that battery to see how much juice it has left after all these years.

Once you have the board exposed (but not removed), take a voltage reading on the battery terminals WITHOUT THE MAIN BATTERY INSTALLED. If the reading is much below 3.0V (10% down or more) then replace the battery.

If not, look elsewhere for your problem.

It appears you really don't give a rat's rear end if this radio flies or dies....

Send it to me, for the cost of a battery and return shipping, I'll replace it for you. The worst that can happen is that you end up with a radio that still doesn't work any better than it does now. As for calibration, you could have asked the folks at Radio South if it were really a problem. I'm guessing it won't need that and that there is little, if any, radio specific information stored in the NVM (other than the six model setup info).

With the battery already at 2.1 volts, that's really approaching the retention limit of the memory anyway. If there are any secret special codes stored in that memory, there's a good chance it's already corrupted.

If it doesn't work when you get it back, then you can wail away with a hammer or any other sizable object you feel the need to swing.

When you remove the back of the 662, you'll see this:

Man, that was just short of a service manual!
Good job with the descriptions and the images. That was some walk-through.

Too bad I don't have the JR 662. I'd love to keep those photos for reference if I used this radio.

EDIT - Kudos for the offer to try and fix thtoyman's radio. In days when it's all for the $$, your kind offer couldn't go unnoticed.

Well I order one gotin 3 days. . But by the time it got here. I check the memory battery again/ Now getting a reading of 0.7..

By Dkschema info set up on my laptop, On my work table, I started in it..
Just as Dkschema, posting. with great info. I did get the battery change. LoL as I was puting it back together. so how I pop the fuss. So off to radio shack. and pick up some new fusses . well any way. I just got it done.
Turn it on looks good. but it re set its self back to planes/ Also I will re-program for helis again. To night some time. I'm going to let it set over night and see if the error code come back.
But with all this,

Do you guys think it safe to use to fly a heli again?

If the radio works, yes. I don't see any reason that it wouldn't be. As for everything resetting back to airplanes, that's most likely the default mode from the factory.

Program up a heli, check out all the functions, make sure things behave the way they should. Enjoy.

You need to keep an eye on that new battery voltage.
Check it frequently.
You don't know why it ran down prematurely in the first place.
