There are scratches there on it here and there from that. I was there watching him when he was installing the floor - there is no reason to put the hammer or tools on the finished floor when you're working and you have bare floor to put stuff on.

It looks like you hired a framer instead of a finish carpenter. There is a huge difference. Everyone is looking for the lowest price these days and find out only too late that quality and expertise matters.

He said he hired a general contractor, who then hires the actual work.

so it sounds like the general hired the wrong people not raja.

If he is a good general he will take care of any minor problems and if he is not Raja can make a claim on his bond.

CRASH! GLUE! REPEAT!

Damage worse than expected

The two A frames are bent, furthermore one of the pitch arms is bent and its hard to say for sure but its possible the head is bent as well.

The major unexpected one is that the crankshaft of the Hanson motor is now bent too, had to pull the motor out and mail it back to Hanson today.

Guess its grounded for a while, waiting on parts and engine repairs.

-=>Raja.

Parts ordered:

Mainshaft
Head with flybar tube assembly
Blade pitch arm
9252 gear set
Hanson motor back to hanson
2 x flybars
2 x A-frames
head button
Vertical fin
Horizontal fin

Parts scuffed not ordered:

CF boom hairline crack looks still usable.
Blades trailing egde tip and root triangled off, small chip in center of trailing edge. Scuff marks on root topside.
Scuff marks on flybar paddle.

That's about it though I may have missed something from memory...

I like to hear an explanation on that one too.
Even if I take a hammer to it it wont bent the crancshast.
I smell a real crash here.. (in the Garage?)

Well gee Zorba, let me explain it

5 bifold doors fell full swing on top of the helicopter. It in turn flipped up in the air and back down. The impact on the head was so hard that the flybar tube got bent downwards and split. The main shaft was pushed down as there was up down play in it about 5mm. Besides head damage (flybar, flybar tube, head button, and possibly the head bent), the lower A frames got bent over so the helicopter now stands leaning to the side.

The clutch gap to the fan closed on one side, wide open on the other side. The crank gave way and bent. I can see that when I split the frames and pull the pull starter through, the fan wobbled all around. I pulled the fan out and pulled it through, and I can see with my naked eye the crank going back and forth not-true.

I hope that the clutch shaft survived. I didn't do anything with that and spinning the Jewel from the top it looks true to the eye.

You think I'm trying to rob my contractor? Comon Zorba, give me a little more credit than that! I had him come and look at the motor too so he could see the wobble before I sent it out to Hanson. This way if he was thinking like you're thinking as a contractor that I'm trying to take advantage of him, well he's seen it in his own eyes that it was bent.

I'd rather this whole careless mess never happened than for it to happen and me have to go through fix something I never should have had to do in the first place.

P.S. I uploaded the pictures that I took of the damage to my gallery for those interested to look. On the boom pictures its hard to see but there is a hairline crack running down the boom that you can get your fingernail in.

All those Bi-folds falling together are definitely a lot of weight. There could have easily been much more damage.

Good luck with the rebuild Raja. Not sure I'd take a chance on the cracked boom.

That's a Hanger 9 Taylorcraft Bill

They don't make them any more, but it was a nice kit and airplane. I got 3 of them, one with a G23 with video downlink, telemetry, gps, co-pilot and jewel on-board dual output generator so you can enjoy the view from the plane, one with a BME 44 for 3D and hovering, and the third in a box as a spare I bought of someone here locally that decided against building it.

All parts ordered from Minair yesterday, they are shipping out today priority mail. The only thing I couldn't get was a 9252 gear set to repair one of the cyclic servos broken teeth. Anyone got any spare gears around want to sell me? I haven't opened the servo yet to see what I need...

I just bought 2 CF tail booms from Rich Sabin Email HatoriUSA@aol.com for $30 and helipoz has them in stock as well http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=109450

I know you have been flying the CF on your spectra but MA says not too because they will crack and fail. have you ever had one fail?

Has anyone had a CF tail boom fail on there gasser?

I fly them on the Ion X2 and it flies 40% faster and harder than my spectra and it has never failed but I still have the aluminum one on the gasser.

1+ for the Hatori/Sabin CF boom. I see no reason why it would fail when replacing the aluminum one. Besides, it's much lighter.

Raja, that looks like about $1000 worth of damage. I hope you don't end up in small claims court. You're not the first to have a reckless contractor drop something on a china cabinet or a grand piano. This is one of the main reasons contractors have to carry liability insurance to get bonded.

He is a legitimate contractor, right?

once you repair it you are assuming all liability and accepted the loss. If you want to get paid back you can file a claim with his surety bond and an adjuster can come out to see if its a valid claim.

You also have home owners insurance you can inquire about but I would go after the bond. Of course if you do that I am assuming you won't be using that person again.

Gonna get sorted out

Yes he's a legitimate contractor and he said he would pay me for it to get it repaired and such. Really I owe him $4000 to finish the job so I will just deduct about $500 my guess for parts and Hanson's work and maybe throw in a few bucks for the work I did to put it back together.

The file a claim here and there and deal with adjusters and such is not a road I'm going to travel. I want my bird up and flying again asap, not waiting on claims and people to look at it and come up with an agreement on how much to pay. I already miss my tail first autos that I was shooting with it!

Just makes me sad.

Ra : Nothin worse than a total- Maybe just a right off for the insurances ?? Might be a quicker build. I've had a few large scaler's that were snake bit on the first flight - what a helpless feeling when you didn't even have a chance.

If you have a dedicated flight counter to that bird " which you probabley do " I'd X it too - with a one smak 2Lb beater. Then you can assure that all is fresh with out lingering spirits.

Starting over in a way is a bit fun - except for the man hour's.

Please keep us posted on your new build. Man - thats the pit's - real sorry for the frustration and defeat.

Jack

I don't think with a helicopter you ever really need to "total" it. With an airplane, once the frame is damaged it is pretty much done unless you are really good with repairs and monokote, and still it will never fly as good as it did before the accident. But with a helicopter, you can drive it straight into the ground over and over, and so long as you replace what it is broken, it is still a brand new helicopter.
