Renton Airfield

Nick, Looking good, great location for the stills, hard to make out if its a model or the real thing
That cutout at the exhaust, I know you have copied the full size, does the bodywork around that area still get warm?
Tried the video, could not connect

Thanks for the comments, guys. Andy you will love the SK360 in your 500, man. Anthony, my apologies for the video issues. It's an MP4 video and Windows Media Player seems to have trouble with it. I can't figure out yet how to make a .wmv version but I'm working on it. I do know that for now Quicktime for Windows will play the file okay.

Question

Where do you fly? When will you fly next? I would love to see this in person, since I live in the area.

Thanks,

Darren

Figured out how to make a .wmv file and added it to the original post.

Peter, the cutout around the exhaust does let a lot of air into the fuse during full power. With all blades off doing engine testing you can put your hand near there and feel the airflow quite nicely. The majority of the pipe is double walled with the outer portion being slightly longer than the inside and creating a venturi effect. The fuse walls stay cool but I'm not sure if the double wall, the venturi action or the increased airflow are what make this happen. Probably a combo of all of them.

Darren, I live in Seattle and fly the big sucker up at the Cascade Model Helicopter Club in Snohomish near Harvey Field. I'm usually there a few times a month. Depends on how much work I have going on. Work is always getting in the way. Hopefully I might even be there tomorrow.

Absolutely beautiful ... and you get to live in the North West too ....

I do have some questions, please. Some background first:

I've been thinking of building a 500 or larger size 500, but am a little 'afraid' to do it right now because I've 'built' a 450-sized 500E with 5-Blade Main Rotor and 4-Blade Cascading Tail and I can't get the tail to hold.

When the headspeed is a little higher, my tail servo doesn't have enough torque to push / pull the tail blades; I'm already using a 5kg servo. Also, I've stripped the entire slider bearing in my attempt to move the tail. When I lower the headspeed, I can't get enough lift.

I've also noticed that your Tail is not Cascading and also it is spinning the opposite way to the way I've set mine up.

Now for the questions:

- Do you have tail problems? If not, does size matter?
- Does making the tail spin the other way make a difference?
- Does it make a difference between a Cascading and non-Cascading Tail?

Thanks.

that is beautiful. You did a great job. It must be my monitor though as the white looks a little on the pink side.
