During flips and rolls the tail seems to slide out. Is it possible to get the stock gyro to hold well?

I'm using a hitec 225mg that is rated at Speed: 0.14 / 0.11 sec @ 60 deg. I'm planning to use a BEC set at 6v to help. Does the gain need to be set immediately below the point where the tail oscillates, I had it down some due to windy conditions we've had lately.

Thanks

HS225 is a big servo for the tail of a blade, a bit of overkill in terms of power and weight but short on speed and not digital. Before you go bumping up the voltage I would look at a truely digital servo, 5084 same specs as the 5083 but supposedly useable with non HS gyros.
Ino-Labs 202 dig mg or carbonite, LT3100 all are faster (.05-.07) on 4.8 and give enough torque to do the job and also weigh alot less. With a digi servo you can now run the gyro in DS mode.
Also DS290, S9257 have had good reviews, I think your servo is to slow.

Well, the 225 is about the same size and speed as the 9650 but the 9257 is faster. Increasing the voltage will gain me more speed for much less. I think I will see how that boost in speed feels if its still not enough then get the 9257.

I wasn't sure if it was servo speed or the gyro that was the problem.

I used a 9257 with the stock gyro and it was actually worse than the stock servo. It would not hold worth a darn no matter what I did adjusting it. Not really sure why, as when I put a 401 with the same 9257 on it everything locked up nice and tight.
I have also seen other people having the same issue with it.

I've also read a lot about the fact the S9257 doesn't pair well with the Blade 400 stock gyro.

Thanks for the info.

There doesn't seem to be many good options for a good small BEC for a 400/450.

Think I will save for a better gyro.

The 400 gyro IMO was a POS - had to be set up properly in rate mode and even then in HH mode I needed trim to get it to work properly. I'd recommend a new gyro even a 401b (clone -$40) would work better then the stocker.

I have an align 550 gyro I'm going to try and see how that does.

The other thing I have noticed is it seems impossible to get the stock gyro to hold when shooting up full throttle, and when I fly in wind I have to take the gain down a few percent.

Yep, sounds like mine. It would spin 90 degrees on a climbout. Same problem with wagging in either wind or high speed flight, turn it down so it wouldn't wag but then it wouldn't hold.

Since I'm broke, I'm going to give the stock gyro another shot with a high speed servo(.07) and see if it holds on climb outs before I try another loop or flip. And give that old align gyro a try to see how that feels.

HEAD SPEED

the higher the head speed the tighter it holds.

in stunt mode i am running throttle curves of 100-90-100

gyro gain of 72

balance the tail mechanically with the gyro turned down to 25 till it does not drift then crank it back up to 70somenthing and have a blast

i can fly backways as fast as it can go in almost any wind. no issues

im all stock baby
