e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > T-REX 600 does temperature affect the 401/9253 setup?

I have recently built a trex600 electric and flying it around with the stock motor and ESC/BEC combination. The battery used is the stock align rx pack and a zippy 5000ma 6s pack. The gyro is a 401/9253 combo. On the 7th flight, the tail servo goes crazy. I have no idea what has happened. The moment the heli lifts off, the nose goes to the left and stops, and then goes to the left again and stops...

I checked the inline regulator with the 9253 servo and its showing 5.3v. What could be the problem. The ambient temperature is HOT. It was about 40C when I was flying it...and had a 2 flights before this started. Could it be the temperature thats affecting this? I will retry tomorrow when its a bit cooler.

One more thing to add here: The 7th flight (problem flight) was with a futaba 14mz/6014 combo. The earlier ones were with a regular futaba 9cap. Now I cannot imagine that the radio could affect tailservo.. because I have 3 nitro trex 600s all on the 14mz and they are all fine.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the tail servo is failing, try replacing it with some other digital and give it a go

The 9253 is a very old out of production servo and was not that that good on large helicopters. It’s probably worn out. Just replace it with a new S9254.

I have swapped the old 9253 with a new 9254. First I tested with the standard 40mhz 9cap radio and it was ok. But when I try it with a 6014 rx with the 14mz, the tail plays up again. I am stumped. I have 2 more 600nitro setups with the futaba 608fs reciever and they are rock solid. Could it be a faulty 6014 rx? Its brand new. Could it be the ESC interferring with the 6014?

thanks in advance.

Check the rudder/colletcive pot on your tx. I had this wear out and the tail would kick when the stick moved.

Hi, Its a 3 month old radio.. I would seriously doubt if its worn out already. It has been sparingly used.

thanks

The 401 is effected by temperature but it only causes a drift. When I turn on the gyro (in the heli) in the cool house then take it outside in the heat to fly the tail will drift a little. When I cycle the power to the gryo in the outside temperature the drift goes away.

It is possible that there is as problem with the 6014 Rx, take a good 608 that you have a replace the 6014, that way you have eliminated a possible conflict. Please report back with results.

Hi, I got time this weekend to work on the heli and swapped the 6014 with another brand new 6014. SAME PROBLEM. I have a twitchy tail. I think its probably the gyro... But thats also a new one.. Could it be the power supply? I am using the align lipo with the align bec. Are they known to have any problem?

thanks

Try a shorter servo arm and turn down the gain a little more.

Sherman89, I replaced the 6014 with a another 6014. I will now put a 608 as well... just for academic reasons... If that works, then whats the conclusion?

Ragz, if the 608Rx works then you have an issue with the 6014Rx. If your 9C works in the heli and the 608 does not work then you have a Tx to Rx issue when you go to the 14z and if that is the case I would look for a setup mistake in programming with the E.
