As some may know, these are already in their third version where they gradually increased the amount of plastic to the legs.

Any not too hard landing would just snap those legs in the beginning. Some even broke during the chicken dance...the good old days?

By version 3 this is still the issue...sometimes.

WHY?

Because the round part where you insert the tubes do not align due to the spacer that must be placed on the back strut to raise the tail.

This offset angles places undue stress to this area.

Obviously the spacer was an afterthought as they are using the same moulding for both front and rear.

Either one needs to make for this angle.

This can easily be viewed by the side when inserting the tube from the rear to the forward legs.

I have found that by adding spacers to the front as well, takes away this stress thus making the landing struts sturdier as originally intended. Proven over and over given my landings

After building the Swift 620SE, I really liked how Heavy Duty where its' landing gear

http://www.centuryheli.com/products...tm?prtnm=CNE612

As I have always like autos, I replaced my Swift 16 & 550 landing gea with these a few months ago and since then I have had some pretty hard landings in some autos, and have never broken one of these!!!

No spool up shakes either, even when testing some pretty bad blades with chordwise CG's that were located far to rearward.

Agree...they are beefier.

I "had" a pair and they do take a beating when compared to stock. On my last order they were none...otherwise. I like to complete my order all from one shop.

I just broke just one leg off the tube insert part this morning...gorilla crazy glue and a rubber band will protect it. This plus staying off the road skidding on an auto will make them last longer. Almost no plastic left...on three auto-skids...yikes!

I need to get some wooden beads or something for skidding...they are fun to do.

EDITED:
that gorilla crazy glue is awesome...never glogs and has some "rubber" properties making it more resistance to impacts unlike the brittle reg CA.

Right now I am using some super wide 30 size nitro landing gear that were on my Hawk. Super Heavy.

What would be some good light landing gear? Anyone try Trex 600 landing gear?

Are those 620 heavy duty gear pretty light OldFart?

The the CNE612 struts weigh in at only 4.955 oz., while the stock CNE512 struts weigh in at 2.225 oz.

The Swift won't even feel the 2 1/2 oz. difference.

Pistol Pete

I know how doing skidding on pavement landings - power on and autos - will weaken the strut/skid attachment area of any struts. I learned that years ago when I started to do that with some of my scale birds - duplicating full load take-offs, landings and autos.

Pavement is a very abrasive surface. When I used to fly a lot from such surfaces, I would use the rubber skid fittings that KSJ and others make. But then one could not do the skidding type of landings and take-offs, because they were like brakes.

Yah but I am already using a very heavy ESC (HV85CC) and those ultra wide Landing gear (Like the Xcell) and a big ass 10s A123pack so I'm trying to go on a little diet.

Yes getting rid of the A123 pack and doing a 8s lipo pack would save the most weight. Probably going to go with those Hyperion G3's when I get a chance.

I have used JR low profile...still had to raise the tail some...of course...thats another goner. Luckily it was in a "dusty parts" very cheap sale basket at LHS...but they only had one...boo

Photo in gallery for that one.

i also have been using trex600 gears, but because of autos, i end up going through them also.

BUT, i use a bolt from the bottom of the skids, which makes the struts last a lot longer (most of my plastic on my struts are usually gone way before too )

Raptor 50 struts on mine. I have broken one so far. 40+ mph into a tree. Never broken one during hard auto etc. I would break the stock gear nearly every moderate hard landing. The Raptor 50 gear is much widr and lower. Looks very aggressive.

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!

A little more than the stock. The tail will sit low so you'll have to compensate with the spacer blocks. That bender weighs over 5 lbs, I weighed it. It popped into the air like no ones business under my Swift. I raised the bender up on some pliers, both sides, then I 'lifted off' until the heli was pulling against the bender handle. Measured the headspeed with an optical tach. When I went to shut down.....oops... I had it in Idle-up2 for max headspeed. Went ot low stick..YIKES. full negative pitch. Overcorrected to mid-stick and, boom, I was in the air with a loose bender hanging under the heli! Well I bobbled around a few times and finally landed unharmed.....

Why I had asked, was to get an accurate figure to compare to the numbers for the CNE612's that OF mentions.

As my Raven 50 and Hawk Pro are both a lot lighter then the Raptor 50 and the Raptor 30. I was think that the Century CNE612 struts are probably lighter then the Rappy 50 units, and would need nothiing extra to be done.

I weighed them earlier. I have an old pair of the really tall spindly Swift gear. They are about 32 ish g each. I weighed the Thunder Tiger .50 gear. They are about 56g each and then the new heavy duty Swift gear (CNE612) and they are 71g each. Stock Swift skids also fit the TT gear.

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!

The TT are lighter and wider. Look at the CNE612's. They are narrow and tall not a big help in an auto. I rarely tip over in an auto unless I'm really horsing around and then I deserve it.
