Anybody knows this HilliHeli DUDE?

Closed the Thread right after I paid so I'm not able to post my feedback about the transaction and revealed the truth about it.

NEGATIVE FEEDBACK regarding this post. http://runryder.com/helicopter/t516958p1/?p=4252290#RR

TOMMY DID NOT DISCLOSED IN THE POSTING THAT THE V-BLADES DONT MATCH 6.8 GRAMS DIFFERENCE WHICH CAUSED SEVERE VIBRATION THAT ALMOST BLEW MY STRATUS' HEAD. WHEN I BROUGHT TO HIS ATTENTION - HE CLAIMED THAT ALL CARBON FIBER BLADES NEEDS TO BE BALANCED BEFORE USING (V-BLADE ALWAYS COMES PRE-BALANCED FROM MFG) ONE BLADE ROOT IS THICKER THAN THE OTHER - SO I HAD TO USE 2 SPACERS TO FIT THE BLADE GRIP SNUGGLY. I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED - I LEARNED MY LESSON THE HARDWAY - THERE SEEMS NO RECOURSE FROM THIS DISHONEST PERSON. LOST hard earned $70.00 from this deal.

That's bogus. I guess his only redeeming quality is he's a fast payer.

If it's gonna happen it'll happen up there!

Will you be able to balance the blades? Was a return policy negotiated at the time of purchase? Has Tommy been successful using the blades himself?

In any case, I have never heard of people balancing carbon blades. Even the famously low end product like G4 came pre-balanced from factory.

Ive seen plenty of guys balance and use orphaned blades there should be nothing wrong with it after being balanced.

just balance them and fly them.
he should have noted in the sale that it was a orphaned set. but they are still serviceable.

6.8 grams.....?

This is not just a wrap of tape. A penny weighs about 3g. More than a gram and your talking about having to do major balance job that will require a Koll pro to figure out where to stick the wieght cord and span wise.

I personally would not have even bolted them on when I saw the roots were different because adding 2 metal shims to one side of the head will make it unbalanced.

100% bad deal

IMO you do not need a kholl to balance any blades, just bolt them together and add weight until they balance at the bolt. Every set I've setup this way flies fine. I *always* check every set of blades I get mains and tail blades. Most of them need a little bit of tape to get them balanced. Just because it's a new set of expensive CF main and tail blades, don't assume they are balanced because they rarely are exactly right. As a side note they do not have to weigh the same or have the same CG to be balanced. Think of two kids on a seasaw, they don't have to weigh the same to be balanced. Also think of a one bladed propeller, it's balanced but the two sides don't weigh the same.

That being said this particular deal doesn't sound right. The seller should answer back. If not, leave feedback, not on the ad but on his feedback list as suggested by USN above.

I think the term "balancing the blade" includes making sure the CG on both blades, length wise and chord wise are the same. A pair of blades with non-matching CG would considered as out of balance.

No , but they would shake fairly at 2000 rpm !
Just statically balancing the blades is not enough , they need to be dynamically balanced as well .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Well when your this far out you need to place the weight in the exact location and in order to do that you need cord and span points, but that really doesn't help in this situation because the roots are off. So when you get the blades correct when you attach them to the head your still out of balance, and maybe out of track. Bad deal if the seller knew it.

At the risk of being put on "AirWolf's side" I will say that I have flown *many* sets of blades balanced just statically. Don't weigh the same or have the same lengthwise CG. but they are usually close. They all fly fine from 200mm up to 800mm blades. This has been written about and many times and there is significant thought put onto both sides of the debate. I will tell you from my experience you do not need to have a matched CG and weight, they just need to balance. Balance being defined (by me) that they have the same leverage pressure at the rotor bolt. Try it sometime. Take a set of blades that are way off such as the ones purchased by Simtech here and add tape near the tip until they statically balance. Go fly them - has always worked for me.

Also, you can send these blades back to V-blades and they will balance them and send them back to you.

However, the root issue is really unfortunate.

You might want to sell them individually to try to get your money back.

Hilliheli is not a good trader. Be sure to post feedback on him somehow. I thought you could still do it even if the thread was closed.

I'm just wondering why this thinking doesn't work for the tires on your car? They don't dynamic balance them for their health. Next time I buy tires I'll just tell them to "put 'em on the bubble balance and save us both some time!"

Tires need to be balanced in all directions. Heli blades need a linear balance.

Again, just try it!

If the root thickness is different by an amount that you need a shim on one and not on another, they are mismatched blades and he should man up and take them back.

The main poiunt is also that if a cst buys a set of V-blades he should not have to balance them, they should just fit and balance right. 6.8 grams is a lot. 100% bad deal for sure

Blades

6.8 grams is WAYY too much...I have accidentally shipped mismatched blades unknowingly myself...but I always took them back and paid all shipping costs...

it's just not worth the headache of trying to fight with someone about this...If you do not tell the buyer EXACTLY what they are getting then you need to take the items back if they are unhappy...plain and simple...
