Didn't look it from the picture of it on Irwin's site. Maybe Irwin can clarify this.

Maybe it was for a nitro Zimmerman? I seem to remember you sending me a link to a clamp available for them or was that for a different brand ?

anyhow I anxiously awaiting a review of the Zimmerman side mount.

I finally received the new shroud Wally so I will try and get some the ideas we discussed tested as well.

AVAILABLE BUT NOT NEEDED????

There is no secondary clamp...I do have clamps for the Zimmermann tuned pipe set. I have not been using a secondary clamp...Lets see if they hold without one. I have not used a clamp & when you see the secondary plate I don't think you will need one...

Hi,

I own 2 different types of side mounted Zimmermann mufflers. The older one has an extra clamp (or bracket) to attach the muffler to the engine. The newer version doesn't have the bracket anymore. The manifold is built much stronger and doesn't need the extra bracket.

We are now working with Zimmermann on new gasser muffler designs for gas & glow machines

Quick Worldwide: So when my Zimmerman Spectra-G rear mount muffler eventually starts to develop leaks (as Raja's did), can you help me to get in touch with the Zimmerman people to get it repaired?

I have had the side mounted Zimmerman, this one will crack too.

Now i have the rear mounted Zimmerman, so far no problems
This exhaust is a little louder than the side mounted.

M Nielsen: I really like your "puzzle" canopy. Did you buy that rear mount Zimmerman from RCMarket?

What is it about the Zimmerman mufflers that cause them to crack? Is the metal too thin?

The other day I stumbled across a JR product for the GSR260 they build.
The JR part number is 61029.
Can`t find a lot info on it myself.

It appears it is designed for a front mounted engine.

I believe Zimmermann started to build the reinforced version of the muffler due to cracking problems. I can't see in the pictures of M. Nielsen if he used the reinforced version.

STAINLESS MAKES FOR BEST EXHAUSTS

We had problems with the early version of the nufflers failing & cracking. The problem was too much heat on too thin of a support weld allowing the weld to fatigue & decomposing the bond. By adding a second manifold weld plate really adds the strength.

In the early stages of developing these mufflers I had them break after 1-2 minutes of just test hovering. To date I have not had any problerms with failures. The current second plate is working & if over time we need to make IT EVEN stonger we laready have a back up plan.

The Zimmermann's are dedicated to always making better exhaust systems. There are new products in the pipeline now. New ideas are limitless.

Discolored stainless mufflers or pipes can be machined buffed out to bring some luster back too them. QWW

I think this is what I said in my first post on this issue "decomposing the bond" Its called metal fatigue

I welded Rajas, put it on my spectra and it re-cracked just the other side of my welds.another sign of metal fatigue in the base metal.
I will try and reinforce his as you have said Zimmerman already did.
but it might be too late for this one.

I am glad they have discovered the problem but what about all those people who got bad ones.

Wondering that myself as I hold on to one right now... Build not complete yet so it will be awhile before I know if I have a bad one or not..

Yep. it's the reinforced version of the muffler.
And yes, I bought the rear mountet from RC-Market.

As you can see there is an extra reinforced plate weldel on
the muffler, and the header then welded on that, but still
it will crack, And no, the steel is not thin.
I have got i repaird ones, but i still keep on cracking.
I guess the vibrations from the motor will do it,
i hope the rear mont will do better.
(Why don't they make the muffler like the hatori for the nitro
heli, with rubber mount ? that will take alot of stress from the
muffler )

once stainless reaches metal fatigue it will often continue to crack right next to a repair weld.

The design of the Zimmerman rear mount which RCMarket is selling was based on Raja's prototype muffler. It's disappointing to learn that Raja's prototype failed after only 9 months of use.

I noticed something today while patching the rear can from rajas muffler, were the final exhaust pipe exits the rear can facing down , just inside the can is a baffle and there was carbon built up blocking 2/3rds of the final exhaust hole. This would cause extreme back pressure.

some of you with these exhaust systems please look in the pipe and see how blocked yours has become if at all.

Is it possible to stick a wire in the exhaust hole and knock this carbon deposit loose, or must the muffler be disassembled to reach the constriction?

Talegunner, what kind of welding technique are you using? It is nice to have a competent welder in the US. Are you by chance going to weld any braces to the muffler? If so, I would like to see what you come up with.
