Dead not even close :-)

I like the lower weight of the TP-3850 6s pack. I am running the 600A HV speedo with 9t and 560 RT blades for 4 min of kick butt hard 3D power ! I love it ! I can get 6 full taking it down a notch on power and blade size and the beating .

I would love to tell you what that set up is in (evil grin)

i was only getting about 4 minutes on my 4s 3700 packs cant wait to try 6s

What was your head speed - motor/pinion?

What brand of Battery?

I get almost 6 minutes set for a low head speed on a 4S/3700 Flight Power 25C pack.

A lower head speed (e.g. 1550) will only take an average of about 425 watts using 520mm blades. So a good 3.7ah 4S battery would give 14.6Volts. The power consumption would be 29 amps (425/14.6)

A good battery will give you enough voltage, to at least 80% of its rating, before dropping too low for comfortable useage of the battery pack.

80% of 3.7A (3700ma) is 2.96A (2960ma). So at an average 29 amp draw that would mean a flight of 2.960/29 = 0.1 hours which is 6 minutes.

So if you are only getting 4 minutes, you would have to have it set-up for a pretty high rotor speed (2150 rpm needs about 650 watts), or your gear mesh is too tight and/or or your belt is too tight or you are ending your flight while there is still more time left on the battery, or your battery is not up to snuff.

Dennisu, How many cells? 4,5, 6? That's a long flight. All slow , moderate forward flight? Air Thunder are fairly expensive.

4 cell 5000 mAH Air Thunders Not expensive I paid $160 Cdn($125 US) for mine. The best part is you can run them down so the helicopter quits flying and it still doesn't bother them -- factory suggested use. Charge right back without heating up and still no problems after 2 years of use. I regularily put back nearly the 5000 mAH amount.

That's good. I have a pair of 5S 5000 Kongpower that are supposed to do the same- no puff, discharge down to 2.5 v etc but guess what. They have puffed and I didn't run them low very often or that low. If you are goin to spend a 160 plus though why not a 5S or a 6S? 6S 4900 for less than that 4S 5000. I have a 5S on my helicam and a 6S on my Swift . This is one mean battery. It has not shown any signs of capacity loss after 80 + flights. I have run it to low voltage cut-off quite a few times. If I don't draw more than 90% of capacity, it balnces perfectly ( charger accurate to about 10 ma., all cells read same voltage and ma. in.

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!

Why would I change when I have had no problems with mine and they will run down to where it won't fly and recharge right back up and no puffing. I don't need more head speed as I have my ESC set to 88% max. anyway. Maybe the Kongpower versions aren't the same as the Air Thunder ones. Could be just better cell selection by Air Thunder when picking the ones for making up the packs.

Definately not recommending the Kongpowers! Keep what you have for sure. Just for future reference the price/performance of the Zippy Rhino's is very high.

550 Carbon

I'm reading through this thred and it prompted me to buy a 550 carbon for 249.00
with the Dads and Grads deal from Century.
I'm not done setting it up yet but I also bought the 620 boom, belt and tail control rod. I plan on running a 4025 1100 Scorpion with a 80 amp Phoenix ESC because I had it. I thinking about running 5 or 6s 4000s.
I'm going to go flybarless also. I'm realy looking foward to flying this heli as I have only flown T-Rex 450,500 and 600 helis.
If I don't get the performance I want out of the 600mm blades i can always cut back to 560s.I think Century gets a bad rap because they don't hype there product. Did I say I can't wait to fly this thing maybe there will be a bunch of T-Rex stuff for sale in a couple of weeks.

Sweet deal

Yes ,
That is one sweet deal right now on the carbon. I like the 560 myself over the 600 blades. With 4000 MAH packs anything over 560's is going to get your flight time short. The 600 size really needs a 5000MAH batt. Go 6S if you can on the 1100 scorpion on 9 tooth pinion. That ESC will be perfect I ran the same set up with the 80 muself with a dedicated BEC. That set up will be real nice ! You will like it over the rex 600 I think. It flies much lighter than any of the rex birds.

The rex 500 is hard to match the battery size cost of packs ect makes it a real good class. Have to admit that for sure. Tried to get century in this size before but they stayed in the 550 class.

The 550 clase is a more stable size ect... but It is a big jump up going to full size servos ect you need to pull more power for those bigger blades.

keep us posted !
