IMO I think the case is people that have them keep them cause they fly good and are cheap to fix.
I think it is the same way with the Century Hawk.

I think alot of people think Century's are cheap (Quality) helicopters. I have a Swift and a Hawk and they have served me well at the flying level I am at right now.

So I'm wondering as people advance to faster and lighter helicopters do they still keep their Hawks and Swifts?

Of course I'm probably contradicting myself. I just don't know anything...

I am a member of a number of different forum sites. That is mostly because most sites seem to specialize in different types of helis.

RunRyder is great for info on all kinds of nitro and gas powered helis, while I find R C Groups is much better for electric heli info. There is a large contingent of Swift flyers there in the "Large Electric Helicopter" forum.

Many of the fellows there have two or three of them.

I agree completely. Well over 300 flights now on my original Sweet 16 from a number of years ago and it is still going strong.

I also agree re the different forums - all seem to have leanings towards different types of helis. I think that is due to the origin of the site. RR originated in the days when nitro and gassers ruled so most of us are flyers of these helis.

When I started with my first electric 450 sized helis and later with Swift. I found R C G had more info relative to power systems etc. because they seemed to be electric oriented.

But I still find that for info on setting up the control systems for different types of flying and for the use of different gyros etc. that RR still rules.

As long as they continue to make parts for the Swifts, I would buy it. Best bang for the buck heli out there IMO......Ron

If there are not too many in your neck of the woods it may be because they haven't been discovered there yet - maybe you could do so for the others in your area.

It is a relatively popular one in a number of areas, including where I fly.

In fact there are more Swift electrics here then Align 600's or any others in their size class.

Century has been around fro over 20 years. They are not some upstart company that makes electric heicopter "toys" in China, that can be here one year and gone the next.

There are not many R/C helicopter companies that make as many different helicopters either - 3 x larger electric helis (Swift 16, Carbon 550SE, Carbon 620SE), a 30 (Hawk Pro)and 50 (NX50) sized nitro, gassers (Predator NX, SE/NX and Condor) and numerous scale helicopters.

Traditionally they have been one of the best for supplying parts for their helis for many years after they were discontinued. So I do not think yo have any worries there.

The Swift 16 is a real good heli - the 550 is even better. But the real question is what do you want the heli for?

If you are into the more extreme type of 3D and like doing aerobatic autos (the 550 has the driven tail) then go to the 550.

If you are just training and want low crash and operational costs and to eventually get into standard 3D - then go with the Swift 16 and a good versatile power system like the 600+ and 80A ESC and some really good battery packs. Now you can use any battery pack from 4S or 5S or 6S and, just by changing the inexpensive pinion for different gear ratios, have it easily configured for the most efficient operation at any desired rotor head speed, from a low scale type of 1400rpm to a hot 3D 2200rpm, or anything in between.

The Swift mechanics in your RTF make for a great little heli, with a relatively good motor and esc that can take you right up to some pretty good 3D type of flying.

It is the very low cost radio gear that the RTF comes with that is really too basic to take you much further then ad-initio training. So if I were you, looking to "move up", I would first go and get a better radio (at least something like the Futaba 6EXH, preferably the 7C) and gyro system (Futaba 401/9254) and install it in your RTF. As you are just learning this combination will take you well into some pretty demanding 3D.

Then you can build the 550 or 620 with a hot power system and use most of that same radio gear and the gyro in either of them.

Oh, I meant to ask why you "shouted" your heading for this thread (all capitalized).

As you are new to these forums I thought you might like to know that it is not considered proper forum form.

Not really new to the forums i have been a member for almost 2 years now. Didnt realize i had caps on ill change it for you now dont want you to be upset j/k

I have purchased dx7 3 hs635hb servo for cyclic and a gy401 and an ar6100e rx and also have a castle 80 amp esc in hopes of setting it up it seem i have to have 3/4 throttle just to get up off the ground with the stock setup i think it mostly the radio though so the dx7 should fix that hopefull that will hold me over for a little while although i just bought a protos and that might be getting more attention then the swift we will see.

Mabey one day i will actually land one of these things !!

Early on you heard it. Those of us who have them usually love them and keep them. For better, for worse, for richer(not usually) or poorer(more likely) until crash do we part(not) Just rebuild.
I have two. a Swift 16 blinged up pretty good. Raptor 50 lower , wider, stronger landing gear. extended battery tray. All metal upgrades except grips. Heavy duty main gear. 560 Rotortechs, 84.5 mm tailblades and so on.... The other is a helicam. You couldn't buy them from me because they are so predictable and reliable. Parts aren't as plentiful as they could be but rest assured, as long as they make them parts, I will have a Swift 16. I'm still upgrading mine slowly. I recently rebuilt and used a CastleCreations BEC set to 5.8v and it sped up my cheapo slow cyclic servos quite noticably. It flips and rolls pretty fast. I want to go to some .08 sec. digitals and then it will be outperforming most TREXs , limited only by my dumb thumbs. And at maybe 1/2 the price.

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!

I would have jumped..... however; just before you listed, I came across one that I had to get. So, what are you going to do with the power system you removing?
