Will this fit on a 550? I'm assuming that the opening isnt wide enough to get all 3 gears in?

Your assumption is correct...they are for use in the 620SE for handling the big power available from 8S and 10S battery systems at high rotor speeds.

Have you actually had the gears strip in flight?

I went from a hover in normal mode to stunt 1 and stripped about 6 teeth on the main gear. I was using the 650L motor when this happened.

That is why I always set for the same head speed in normal as in Idle one on all my electric helis. The instant torque from powerful electric motors will do that every time if one mode is set lower then the other.

I just realized that you are also flying a modified Swift - not the stock one. You are using a motor designed for 600mm blades, using the longer boom from the Swift 620 and loading the Swift maingear with the heavier loading of 600mm blades.

Hmmm....???

Yikes.
I'm thinking I am going to run into this too. Using a big Scorpion motor on my Swift 16. But I'm using a Castle Creations ESC is SET GOV Mode and super slow spool up. So all my flight modes are goverened. So in Normal Mode if I go to zero throttle and give it throttle again it does the super slow spool up no matter how long I am at zero throttle.

I can change the settings so it won't do this. For instance if I want to bail out of a Auto but I think that will kill my stock gears.

If you upgrade to a CC ESC you can control the power and speed that is used when you go from one flight mode to another. Some ESC’s just slam the power when making the transition which is not a good thing.

Also if you have a high end transmitter like the Futaba 9 channel and up you can program in a transition between flight modes. That way the throttle and collective will jerk and have a smooth transition. You can program the transition time individually for each control function.

I'm running a CC85HV. I was playing around with the settings on the Castle Link. I'll have to set things a little "softer" after I change the main gear.

I'm swinging 600mm woodies just for set up.

Yah I have the CC 85HV. I can see where you can change the transition spool up between flight modes. But I have been keeping them the default settings for fear of losing the main gear. But I'll order an extra gear and start messing with the Castle Software some more.

As it is now if I fly in normal mode and go to zero thottle in flight I am pretty much autoing.

CompyMike, What Scorpion? My Swift 16 is running on a 4025-1100 on 6s and 10T. Heavy duty main gear. I've had some pretty violent spoolups and no stripped teeth. This motor has incredible power and I'm amazed the Swift hasn't ripped in two some times. I'm betting you'll be okay if you are softening up the transitions.

The plywood at the bottom is an extension of the battery tray.

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!
