Hello all:

I have decided to scratch build the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne and have been collecting a bunch of materials, drawings, photos and even a reprint of the proposed flight ops manual for the Cheyenne. But, the only thing I need now is a drawing of the fuselage stations and their locations. I just can't find this vital piece of information. I have a couple of static models for reference, but I would rather work from a drawing. So if anyone has this drawing, I would love to buy a copy of it from you. Or if you know where I can find this drawing that would be great as well.

I am designing it to about 1/6th scale. It will be a little longer than the Vario Lama. I have a Jetcat PHT 3-3 that at this point may be installed. It will also be able to take advantage of some of the new large scale electric mechanics and motors as seen in "bwellmakers" awesome build thread of his Sikorsky S-76 here RR. I purchased the rest of the build materials today and my glass materials will be on order as soon as my shoulder has healed enough from the accident and surgery. It looks like obtaining the drawing I was after is not going to materialize. I found a guy locally that can do a lazer scan of one of my static model kits for an electronic line rendering for my fuselage station needs. I will be using the resin "Anigrand Models" kit for this operation as it is excellent, and is the best representation of the AH-56 Cheyenne available. I build static models for museums and compete regularly with them in static model events, and will incorporate this level of detail into the fuselage in an effort to produce a precision scale helicopter. Additionally for transport I have come up with a plug in tail system that will effectivly take moments to install and ease transport by nearly reducing the disassebled transport length to about 50% of overall length.

I am slowly trying to finish my Vario Bell 47 G-3. Wayne Parrish, and Joe Howard have been most kind and motivational to help me work through some of the final assembly. I am at present however only able to do small amounts at a time due to a pretty bad accident in my wood shop which required my right bicep needing to be reatatched to my shoulder, a rotator cuff repair and torn out cartledge, and some holes drilled in my shoulder to install some pins to hold it all together. So now I am dealing with severe shoulder fatigue and pain in recovery. I have a Wayne Parrish Rotor brake for my 47 to install to help with shut down time. It looks to be a very simple, efficeint, and light weight system. I am going to try to assemble and install it this weekend. To Jazz up the 47, I am going to Vacu-form a dummy engine for it as well.

you are so correct .... am going to be watching this also as I have been trying to get my hands on one of the orginal schluter fuselages to do up in electric .

Are you going to do the pusher propeller ,,which is a stupid question .,, what with your resume of building .... but inquiring minds want to know for sure

Yes, the tail pusher prop will be incorporated. There are two possibilities to drive the tail. A special tailrotor gearbox that I am working on a CAD drawing for milling that would reduce the rpms to the pusher prop 3:1, this would also drastically reduce torque, or a lower kv electric motor using a 30amp esc and A123's. This will be dependant on the the amount of powerloss driving 7 blades on the tail using the mechanical drive. In any event it is my intention to drive the pusher at Zero degrees of pitch. This will give the appearance that it is trully doing something back there. I have also thought of having the pusher blades drive at a slightly negative pitch to help counter some of the residual thrust of the Jetcat PHT 3-3 if used? I have no intention using the pusher for forward thrust as I think that the possibility for aerodynamic instability would be high around the yaw and pitch axis's. I have spoken with Dr. Tim about this at length and he concures, having tried this with the old schluter sorta Cheyenne.

Glad to hear you are at least putting it on ... yours and DrT's thoughts on this are the same as what I had in mind .Just getting it to turn ,, let alone be useable will be hard enough . The long output shaft required for the normal tail rotor is also going to be fun .
Good luck and keep the pictures coming !!!!!

Actually not so much. I am going to use a sleeved bearing set to carry the shaft for the tailrotor.

I have been in touch with a Mr. Laszlo T Horvath at Lockheed he said that the information I need may have not been released yet. There are some hoops to jump through to get the information I want, but we have started the process. I have the Warbird Tech Series book on the AH-56 already. It does not contain the information I am looking for, and I have not found it anywhere in the two years I have spent off and on looking. I also have about 5 sets of walk around photos and just about all the info I can pull from the net. I suspect that Mr. Horvath may be right, and that the information I need, or rather want will have to come from Lockheed. I am however going to have the "Anigrand Models" kit scanned and mapped, so I will at least have this information. It is amazing to me , but the gathering of information has taken a lot longer than it would take to build the model. I just want it to be as right as I can make it.

My scratch built AH-56 Cheyenne is under way. I have just about completed the right side. I will start work on the left side early this week. I hope to add the top and bottom and begin shaping the plug this week end. It is 1/6th scale.

The pilot could not wait
to try her on for size

Well here she is, almost ready for shaping. I hope have her all rounded up in a few of days. Then onto the sponsons, wings, and stabilizers. The top cowl/fairing will follow.

Wayne, how ya doing?

I will try to make it down to King N.C. for the event. Traveling is still hard for me, because my shoulder and arm are still quite unstable. I am still not able to finish up the Big Bell. It is to big and heavy for me to manuever around my shop just yet. So it just sits there grinning at me. At least that is what it seems like. I have been working very hard in therapy to avoid another surgery which is still yet a good possibilty. So I decided to start building the plug for the Cheyenne. It is very light in comparison and quite theraputic for my arm. I just got finished putting a razor edge on my small hand planes. If I get her rounded up as planned I will post some more pictures tomarrow.

Hey FenderBean:

While I agree the Cheyenne is all kinds of sexy firepower the Apache ain't so bad herself. My last ride was the L-1011 Tristar and after 21,000 hours in the air the Tristar was a nice way to button up my flying Career.

Richard, Man I hope you don't need another surgery ! Thats the pitts to even think about. Hope maybe you can get to King, but I sure understand if you can't. If you get there you will recognize me. I'll be the one with the BIG wide grin after flying the Big Bell !! I went to a fly-in today and it was a hit again. People just love the size and sound of the big blades slapping the air !

Thanks Boyd, I will get in touch with him and see if I can get a copy of the drawings.

Well here are some pictures showing the layout lines drawn on the fuselage to guide me through the carving and sanding process. I was able to get some initial carving underway, but I had to give my shoulder a rest for a day or so. I attached a cardboard vertical fin mock up for these pictures to give her a little bit more of an AH-56 Cheyenne look. Unfortunatly, I did not get as much done this past weekend as I had hoped but, as you can see it is starting to take shape.

Cheers,
