In most cases safety only becomes important when someone gets hurt or the price of insurance (without a documented and implemented saftey program) is too high.

However, nothing is completely safe (not even sleeping) and we will never be able to make life totally safe, just minimize the stupid stuff we do.

My field has a good (undocumented) safety program but so far it is good but not over the top. I like it.

The bottom line is that just because a person has an AMA license doesn't indicate that he or she is a safe pilot. I have seen plenty of boneheaded AMA pilots.
That applies on this side of the pond as well. Some of these "pilots" are allegedly Instructors and hold Achievement scheme certificates
