Main gear

Hi shawmcky!
A little late reply on this one - I'll see if I can get the main gear today and take a couple of pix and put up here. I don't remember if it had auto hub but I think so...The heli sits in the basement of a friend of mine since I have my shed too full of other projects at the moment

Hi shawmcky!
I finally got time to take the main gear of the Baron 50. It has no auto hub but a solid hub. So it seems to me the main gear could fit both solid and auto hubs...it would be great to have an auto hub though...By the way the main shaft is 10mm..
Here are a couple of pixs:

Thanks!

Main Gear

What is wrong with the gear you have in the pic,is it the usual bevel gear drive teeth stripped? How many teeth- 88?I have Kalt gassers and do not use the bevel drive as i have direct drive gearboxes. If your gear is good other than the bevel drive teeth damaged i will exchange it for one with good bevel teeth.I have several auto hubs as well. There are a few different types though.

more pics

Here's a few more for you.

It has 86/76 teeth as far as I can see. Not easy to count the stripped bevel Don't think mine is worth sending over since it looks pretty worn all over but if you think you can make use of it I will of course!
About an auto hub - I have one spare for my Baron Alpha II but I don't think it will fit. So if you have one to spare I'd paypal you right away!
By the way - is the gasser based on the 50? I had a look at www.vrhc.co.uk today and an old add there had pictures of the Kalt range from june '88...the gasser seems to have a lot of similarities.
I am going to fetch me a gasser one time...they are hard to get by...

Thanks!

Kalt Gasser

There is a Kalt gasser for sale on E-bay at the moment, looks very good.I will do a tooth count on my gears but i think they are 88 teeth. The 50 and gasser use many of the same parts, the frames are the main difference being wider to take the gas motor.I have three gassers, two complete and flying with the latest Zenoahs.I have a box of the old KG22 motors, all good and enough spares to keep me going for years.

Main gear

Hi, I also have a Baron 50 which has stripped the main gear. I have e-mailed R-MOORE 74 in Norway to say that I have found a guy who will injection mould new gears from resin (stronger than Nylon). He wants $50 for the mould so the more people want one the cheaper they become for each person. Anyone need one, or know of someone? this could be good for other models as well! Keef

Kalt parts

I would also be interested in getting spare main gears. I have recently spoken with someone who has molded replacement gears for Kyosho helis so he may have some good ideas about that or might be able to do them.

I have a GS Alpha gasser, a complete Baron 50, a nearly complete unassembled Baron 50 and a later model Baron 60 approx same age as the GS alpha.

I have started a website with the hope of compiling info on Kalt the company, various Kalt helis and any and all tips and resources for restoring and keeping them flying.

At the moment I have virtually no info on the history of the company or the evolution of various models with approx dates so this would be helpful. I'd like to get all the most useful stuff in one place because I found almost nothing when I forst got the gasser, so I'd like to put together the kind of website I was hoping to find myself.

It is just an index page with a few pics right now (my Gs Alpha and Baron 50) http://www.kalthelicopters.co.uk

Main Gear baron 50

Hi Trillian,

The guy I spoke to in USA wants $50 for the initial mould, and $5 each gear (+postage) I was reckoning on say, 10gears which would cost $100, about £10 each. Perhaps Midland Helis would buy a few, they boast they have the largest collection of Kalt spares in the world EXCEPT main gears! How does this compare with your contact who made the Kyosho gears? One thing is for sure, there is a demand out there for these gears. (see previous postin on this topic)regards Keith

That's quite reasonable. I have not spoken again to the other guy but I'll ask just out of curiousity. (he is in the UK).

I suppose the other thing would be if we're talking about one mold and buying multiples of the exact same gear, has it been established which gear exactly? I assume we are talking about the Baron 50 drive gear?

The heli I anticipate wanting to fly most is the gasser (GS Alpha) which uses a bit wider flat tooth area (not sure of the tooth count at the moment) but the top bevelled part is probably the same.

I really need to compare the gears from the GS alpha, Baron 50 and Baron 60, maybe someone here already knows the differences.

Gears gears gears!

You are right trillian!
There were a few different gears for the different Barons. My 50 has 86 on the outer and 76 on the bevel, My 60EX has 80 on the outer and I don't know the inner since it is a metal crown anyways...The other Baron 60 again are different from the 60EX ....And as shawmcky says in an earlier post here, the GS is different too...
My hope and dream is that someone able to make gears could do some gears of all the different ones and some shop like midland could put them to stock... Or one of us guys could just take them all and put on ebay or something...I don't know but it would be great to be able to buy a gear or two when I need one...

Is that the 60 EX with the white and red canopy and the black head on it?

I have a Baron 60 that looks like it is the same vintage as the GS Alpha but it needs a thorough refurbish doing to it. It currently has the same rotorhead as the GS which is a very chunky plastic thing. But I have two different metal heads as well, one like yours and one that is all castings.

You mean in my gallery? Yes the one with the white-pink-purple-blue canopy. It has quite a few other upgrades too - a carbon tail drive shaft being almost invisible I think it makes the biggest difference

I wonder if the plastic chunk head you have is the K5...at least the cast one sounds like it is the K1-SB - I have a couple of those.
Kalt had lots of different heads - luckily a 1987 Catalog is coming my way in a few days!! Then I'll find out what was available at the time.

Gotta catch some sleep!
The teardown-rebuild of my nearly unused Kalt Omega Grand Prix is exhausting

Hey there R Moore74, a 1987 catalogue, hmmmm, did you just get it on Ebay UK by any chance? I was bidding on that as well But obviously it wasn't just between the two of us because the winning bid went a good bit higher than my top bid.

Yeah, at some point I'll get some pics of the Baron 60 I have. I don't know much about it really.

Slowly but surely I'll get all this info together and then get it all in one place on my website.

Good night
