This guy should know better. definitely not the way to show kids your helicopter. What if one of the servos locked up on him, or worse.

What will manufacturers have to do to make it clear to pilots that this things are not toys and are dangerous?

I wish I could fly 24/7

****.... When I see this, they should include pictures and videos af accidents in heli box! Maybe they would understand the danger.

I am sure the guy had just good intentions... he just didn't know.

That's what I figure too. I know that I like to light up kids eyes when I'm flying, but man that's just too close for comfort.

It's amazing that so many people don't know how dangerous these things can be.

You never know, those kids might even grow up to be into model flying! I know my first experience of rc was at my local park, a guy was flying a spitfire, it was one of the best things I had ever seen! It really captured my imagination. And that was a long time before they had even thought about park flying models! That probably wasn't the safest thing in the world.

I'd have to agree there, that's a public park.
He really should not be flying there at all.
Too many people walking by , a playground nearby etc.

He's not doing anything REALLY stupid, that's good, but
still, things happen, gust of wind, broken part, radio brownout
and that could have a very bad ending.

In some ways it's too easy to get into helis, only about $250 or so,
and you could have a Trex-450 clone flying. That's the cost of an
iPod.

Hopefully someone gave him a reasoned talk about what could happen
if and when the bird gets away from him. Most reasonable people would
not want to be part of hurting anyone and would look for a better place
to fly. Of course, most people are going to blow off someone who
runs up in hysterics or an internet post full of caps and !!!s.

Might also remind the pilot that RC flying is banned in public parks by local ordinance in a lot of places, and after a few more publicized accidents, probably everywhere else.

Last thing this hobby needs is Faux News to grab hold of some incident and blow it completely out of proportion.

What the hell!!!

I don’t even like people talking to me when I am flying I just don’t answer them. Let alone getting that close to people in a park. I will admit I do fly in a public park BUT only in the early morning hours of the day when the park is empty and if ANYONE is around I go home.

I was running at my park one day and noticed when I got to the other end of the track, someone was flying a Raptor 30 in the middle on the grass that sits in the inside of the track. #$@%# pissed me off. That's nuts, people were all over the place, including me. I don't want to have to worry if this thing escapes this guy. Of course I stopped to check it out and the guy was pretty cool and I mentioned the dangers, unlike my original thoughts of going over there and yelling. lol.

If you want to show-off you should fly at your club with your peers, not infront of the clueless public. Small-kids will run full-speed towards helis!

As for seeing someone else fly, maybe you should friend them and invite them over to the club. A lot of newbs don’t realize there are clubs or think they have to be able to fly before they'll be welcome at a club!
