be careful with how much you take off. i ended up taking too much off in that pic.

if i were to give full throw, the ball link on the pitch slider would pop out. i had set the limits on the 601 so it would not get to that point. but during flight, it obviously did.

vertical uncontrolled piro into the ground, despite the limits being set, the slider over traveled just enough to pop the link.

the crash was pretty rough. not a complete re-build, but it was my excuse to buy the NX

im leaving the tail hub alone this time.

note that i was also using the metal slider which already gives a little extra pitch.

thanks for the heads up. i'm gonna take a 2nd look on the bench to see how far the ball pops out. i only have a wimpy little dremel so it took a while even to take off 1.5mm - just to where the arc is removed.

Wow,Guys, with the stock tail on my NX50 it has so much tail authority and spin rate... its insane!

I'm using the Mini-g gyro with 9254 on the tail.
From blistering blurs to the hardest stops I ever have done on a raven!
So much so that I did a maximum velocity drop into a tail slide and snapped the Jesus bolt on the bottom

The tail gears got stripped out, but the main crown is still good to go! Much stronger then the last gear.

All this and the tail holds like a ROCK! I never flown a heli with such a locked in feel on tail! Mini-g for the rest of my fleet after the runs I had. I do have the cnc tail though, but this is the same tail design as my last original raven and at the time was using a 401 and found the same as you guys are speaking about. No matter what I did it was never as fast or locked in as I wanted and felt it had more authority in one direction then the other.

I don't get why it is such a difference?

Maybe there is no problem with the tail but how its managed?? eg.. gyro

Could this be why century keeps the same tail design for so many years??

Things that make me go HMMM????

what headspeed are you running btw?

I'm glad things worked out for you the first time around with the stock tail. holds like a rock for me too(this is assuming the center hole on the tail blade grips). however i do get a little bounce in right piro stops and left piros are just a hair inconsistent. this seems to diminish with higher headspeeds.

after messing around unsuccesfully with all kinds of parameters in the gyro, i tried an experiment where i move the ball to the innermost hold on the tail blade grip to get more pitch for left piros. right stops were a lot sharper and left piros were more consistent even at lower headspeeds. Only problem with having the ball on the innermost hole is that right piro authority really suffers to the point where the tail will blow out in ccw funnels and right piros were extremely inconsistent so i moved it back to the center. Now, i'm trying the mod beavis mentioned to see if i can get the best of both. I should be able to test it out this afternoon.

can't get a consistant piro rate

what is it with the mini-g? when i first got the mini-g i also stripped the delrin gears - it seems to be very demanding of the tail assembly. metal gears FTW.

well...unfortunatly unlike the futaba GY gyros, there is no delay with the stop.

with the Mini-G, when you tell the tail to stop, it STOPS!!!!!

using the 601 on my predator with a little delay programmed in. i could to a full left/right pirouette, let go of the stick, the tail stops, and nothing else happens. the delay isnt a lot, but it stops the gears from screeming for mercy.

i now use the Mini-G on the predator. the same test had me ordering a new crown gear that night. Actually, the gear wasn't even that bad, a couple teeth just had minor damage and its still air worthy, but i decided to change it anyways. the Predator tail system is extremely robust.

now, you can help by not using 150% rudder ATV's and slow down the pirouette rate a bit, verses warp 12 piro's. but that isnt as fun

you just need to be a little more gentle when you stop the heli, and you will be fine.

If you want to know how much left ot right tail authority or power ANY tail rotor has, just take the gyro out of the equation and give full left or right piro command. With almost any heli I have ever flown, you wil find it will have a blinding piro rate, specially at an 1800 plus head speed.

What will seem to take that power away will be the electronics that you put between to control your tail rotor (the gyro system).

So if something is lacking and the tail rotor system is assembled properly (in the case of the Hawks and Ravens, one may have the two tail drive gears assembled in the wrong position - the bigger one goes on the input shaft and the smaller on the output shaft), then 99% of the time it is because of one's gyro set-up.

If anyone is interested their are some articles on ur site I can direct you to that explain all of this.
