Not sure what u mean here. My tail grip only has 1 hole. My tail bellcrank only has 1 hole. Do you mean the tail servo arm?

Mine are in the middle also, but I think the in the Raven manuel it shows in the hole closest to the boom. Mine flys fine the way there are, so I'll leave it alone.

thanks for the responses. i currently have it on the center. it feels a little weak in left hand piro flight/maneuvers. i'm using 92mm radix tail blades and running 1950HS. i thought it was my tail servo so i swapped in a brand new one but it still feels a bit weak so i think it could be pitch limited.

i'm gonna try it on the inside hole to see if it performs better for left piro stuff. i know i'll be sacrificing a little right piro authority. i'll have to see how it feels to see if it's acceptable.

i just did the exact same.

i found with the head loaded i had very reduced tail authority with left rudder input. (ball in the center)

i just put the ball on the inside a couple days ago. i'll be taking it out tomorrow to see how it does.

testing on inner hole didn't go so well

shawn, let me know how your testing goes. mine was crap. the tail couldn't even hold on a full pitch climbout and the heli really struggled to accelerate into a right piro - at least compared to what i'm used to.

anyway, i set her down halfway into the tank and put it back to the middle. it's not ideal but at least i'm used to the behavior.

next thing to try for me are 95mm blades.

More pitch

Best solution is to dremel the hub down a few MM this gives a real big change in amount of tail throw. The other option is to use a longer shaft. This mod is the easiest. If you look at the build thread you can see a few pics

the thread also has a few other little mods along the way like how to free the tail gears completly so there is no drag at all.

I'am already using the metal washout to get more pitch.

I didn't get to do a test today. it got super cold and extremely windy and gusty, even worse on an open farm field.

B.M., Swift Pitch Slider on the 30/50s

no I haven't tried the Swift Slider on my Ravens,, but it looks promising,, I will Email the Beav and ask him to check it out,,

I think if the Pins are far enough apart it would work..

well, i did a flight..half a flight today with the ball on the inside hole. what a terrible flight. i cant believe how much it changed the tail. it through everything off. the 601 was not impressed with it, overall it made everything worse.

needless to say, i moved the ball back to the center before i even burned half a tank.

back to beating the crap out of my Raven again.

I am not going to throw on swift parts when the little mod I illustrated gives about 60 degrees travel in both directions or more. As much as any other 50. It lets you center the travel and equalize end points on a 601 or any dual end point adjustable gyro. That really helps a few of them a lot. Gosh darn, it just plain fixes the tail geometry limitation. Reps for ages have been doing this mod and there have been several threads on this already.

I use a 95 or 98 size RT tail blade

With all that throw a wide blade and a decent tail gear ratio I think we are near 5 to 1 this puppy has all the tail you need.

Stock with a high head speed and the good tail blades the mod is almost questionable if you need it.

below 2000 head speed the extra throw is nice to have and noticable

Note

If you have a 401 and see studder in forward flight piros it is not the tail power it is the gyro.... I had to learn what everyone was talking about with the constant piro rate chatter. I chased What I thought was a tail power issue till I tried a different gyro. i had the power all the time. I will never mount a 401 again (for my needs) they are still a good gyro but I learned thier limitations better a few years ago when I started pushing the heli wanting the constant piro rates.
