Just jokin

i flew 3 tanks through it tonight.

My verdict....AWESOME!

The slim canopy really seems to help with faster flight characteristics both backwards and forwards.

I was doing auto's by the time i was half way through the first tank.

There were no problems at all during the build AND its first flights. Everything fit the way it should. I'm not sure why a few insist on bashing this awesome heli.

It seems like they must have changed some of the geometry on the head. I was able to setup the head this time without having to worry about binding issues that concerned me on the Raven. The NX seems more stable then the Raven, but that could be phasing setups. I had setup the guide on the Raven in such a way to reduce binding. But on the NX, i have the guides right at 90 degrees. With the black paddles and no weights i have actually found it to be almost TOO stable. I'm going to put the yellow paddles on for more aggressive flight.

the Tri-Flow pipe works great. i have uploaded a YouTube video for those interested in hearing what the idle sounds like using the YS50 and the new pipe.

""The NX seems more stable then the Raven""

that's better Servo resolution for yeeaa!!

""i have actually found it to be almost TOO stable. I'm going to put the yellow paddles on for more aggressive flight""

1) are you sure you are getting full Swash Deflection,,

2) I too use the 8231s, while a very good servo but not overly fast,, I'm wondering because of the higher Servo Resolution the NX may need faster servos, (the Raven uses very long Servo Arms so it didn't really need very fast Servos)

""YS50 Idle sound with Century""

sounds like a foreign sports car

Yes, i'm getting full swash deflection. the roll rate was OK, but the flip/elevator rate was very slow. This has nothing to do with servo resolution when we are talking about a constant cyclic input.

I'm not sure if its fair to say faster servo's are needed on the NX compared to the Raven or not.

with the Raven, the servo's are using longer arms, so yes, with the same servo you get a fast response, but that is on the ground. that longer arm has now increased the torque on those servo's. under flight conditions, that fast response you see on the ground is gone.

with the NX, your using shorter arms, there for they are already slowed down, but can now provide more torque.

A servo that is slower but with more torque will beat (in flight) a servo with less torque but greater speed.

doing the same moves as i did on the raven, then the NX, didn't show me any significant difference. moves such as a 6 point roll or going vertical and pumping the collective. it all felt the same in that respect. Not to say that the NX doesn't need a faster servo. the 8231 does very well, but a better one would be nicer

I'm very happy with the Futaba 9452's on the predator, i'm sure it would be like crack on a 50 machine.

is that a bad thing?

I just posted it for those curious as to what the new pipe sounds like.

its very quiet in the air. as good or better then the original silent power.

""is that a bad thing""

no, it sound cool !! throaty..

over the 8 years one thing I have noticed on the Raven's Head is the more pressure I relieve from the Main Grip Bearings the lighter and crisper the Raven's Cyclic becomes,, I used-to cut-down my Red Dampers on the lathe to reduce the pressure the Dampeners put on the Grip Bearings,, now I use the Compass 6mm Spindle,
this Compass Spindle is 1mm longer than Century's 6mm Spindle, and I use the Compass 6mm Washers too, these Compass Washers are 1/2 the thickness of Century's Washers, the Compass Washers are 1/2mm thick,,, SOooo, the Compass Spindle & the 2 thinner Washers together = 2mm,,
this really lightens crispens up the Cyclic, so much so I had to increase the Expo 10% (I use no Dual Rates, but I do use 2 Expo Rates 0% and "now" 30%)..

i have always tightened the grips enough so if i rev up too quick they wont fold.

I am using the red dampeners with the stock shims. but this time around i trimmed the dampeners flush with the hub so they don't rub on the grips.

just an FYI.

i weighed in my two pipes.

the older silent power came in at about 78grams, or 0.17 pounds LESS then the larger Tri-Flow pipe.

After getting things tuned in i have noticed that the heli is much smoother and quieter. i had a couple guys near me flying a 600N and a Raptor 50. their helicopters completely drowned out the sound of my NX, i could not hear it all over the noise of another heli. other then the odd blade fart in a flip.

i am able to do a steady climb at 12 degrees of pitch swinging the Rotor Tech 610's.

Thanks for the heads up on the weights

I also love the new tri-flow pipe, its the quietest pipe I have ever heard in person!

It puts out gobs of power!

BTW what head speed you running FP? What do you think would be the best head speed on the NX with OS hyper to get the best power?

How much over rpm do I need to set it to get it to bog down in the best power band when executing power demanding maneuvers??

TIA

Cheers,
Raven

sorry, i just edited my post, i made a mistake while it was typing. the older silent power weighs LESS then the Tri-Flow.

about 1950 seems to be the sweet spot on my YS, i dont know for sure about OS engines though. i have the revmax set to about 2000rpm right now.

but even with that extra 50rpm, when you really load up that head your still going to bog it down, but it still get thats little bit of help.

im actually having trouble being able to tell when its loading up a lot. the pipe is so quiet that i have to get used to the sound it makes....or doesn't make, haha.

but so far i only have 5 tanks through it, so i am still getting used to it.

as for my flip rate trouble, it seems i screwed up while i was setting up the head. i spent some time tonight completely re-doing the head and making sure everything was lined up properly. im not sure how i missed it at the beginning. so i will see how she flies next time out.

and for some reasn, the big outlet on the pipe doesnt get alot of excess oil on the heli when flying. i get more oil from an exhaust deflector than this pipe with none.

yeah, either way my machines get covered in crap, lol.

cant help it when your inverted or going backwards. there is only so much a deflector can do.

Well, it looks like I'll be joining the ranks of the NX owners tomorrow. I totalled my Raven today, so I suppose it's time to bite the bullet. Turns out - you actually need to screw in the horns on the cyclic servos... who knew?

If it's made to be idiot proof, sooner or later they'll build better idiots.

oh man! THATS what they are for!!!

SONUVA!!!!

Sorry to hear about your crash though. the same thing sorta happened to me. Not the servo horn, but i used the Raven crash as an excuse to get an NX.
