I think they look cool, but I am concerned about weight. Can anyone share? I also wonder if they are so durable that in a crash the impact will spread upwards to the frame.

yup!

I have not crashed it yet to tell if the frame would be stressed. However, they to flex some with some harder landings. I have noticed that the whole frame structure feels a lot stronger than say my T-rex.
and especially with the metal landing struts. There are no issues with
weight.

The stock plastic landing gear is already so durable it sends energy right into the frame.
I had a failed autorotation and landed square flat on the skids so hard the blades buckled....well the skids were fine except a little skewed to one side but it also made 3 of the legs (the bottom curved forward portions) of the frame snap. They were still attached, but they were fractured pretty good. also the bottom plate was snapped clean off on the front where the ESC goes.
I really could'a went with a destroyed $6 landing gear over $46 for new frame halves and $8 bottom plate.

I've gone with Hurricane 550 gear on mine. Wider and taller. The stock Beam gear is in the foreground.

My experience of trying out the new metal landing gear:

Landing gear comes with no hardware to mount to bottom plate.
Holes for bolts to mount to bottom plate are bigger than the hole's in the bottom plate and require being drilled out or using smaller bolts and having it "loose".
Heli now has awful vibration on spoolup.

Big thumbs down for me. I ordered a new set of the stock landing struts along with a new bottom plate. I am going to run the "new" landing gear until I crash where the bottom plate will surely break and then go back.
