I'm an SH60B avionics tech. This is the first build up I've seen of someone making a Seahawk. This is my next project after my apache.I love it! Keep it coming.

Jack,
It is coming along very well. I traveled all week so I plan on doing hover testing tomorrow and will post. If all goes well at that point we will do some forward flight.

My expectation that everything should go good and then I will move to the next steps which will be;

A.)Remove the mechanics and put them back into boom & pod. I am going to do this to set up a new motor, esc, four blade head, etc. That will all get sorted in the boom & pod.

B.)Start doing the detail work on the fuse...which is my favorite part. I will start making more details to bring the Seahawk to life. Of course that will all have to be feather weight stuff but thats okay.
From there it is paint and graphics.

A. & B. Can happen simultaneously. Everything to this point has just been to see if I could get the thing to hover...stay tuned.

Bear, thanks for the encouragement. While build threads take some energy and you wonder if anyone cares about the stuff your doing it is worthwhile because every build thread I follow, I learn more and more. Rodans SeaRanger build taught me tons about Trex conversion into scale.

Thanks

Hovertesting was a bit of a challenge earlier today in gusty 15-20 mph winds. No photos, not many people at the field. I got enough done to know I needed to do some blade tracking and could use a little longer tail blades.

So I came home, got it tracked and went from a 50 tail blade up to a 60 tail blade. Whether or not it was the wind from earlier today, this afternoon went much better with the tail holding. And the winds were way down.

My lovely and talented assistant (wifey) shot the photos. All in all I am pleased at this stage. The crucial part for me was the flex drive to the tail...it seems to be doing its job well. I need to break everything down and have a peek.

It will be a beautiful ship in the air when done. I did not do any forward flight to this point. A little tight around the "hood."

I keep mulling over the final scheme as that will dictate some of the physical detail of the ship. Today I am leaning to HSL 49 Scorpions.

Stay tuned.

Rckfish,

Nice show!!!

I did a simple mod on the 600 to get rid of the autorotation bracket. It would protrude halfway across the fuselage on my airwolf and I would have to practically destroy the top if I was to keep it.

Do you have the same issue with the hawk?

This is how it would look if I kept it (some other guy's work). Arrrrrggg!

With the mod mine is nice and intact...

January Flyer,
you may have done this but I found some good photos this way on the Warlords.

www.google.com Then type into the search box HSL-51 Warlords...hit enter then look up to the left and hit images...

I found both tail designs and some great shots.

Hope it helps. Also, go here;

I left HSL49 about a year ago. I've personally worked on A/C 100 and my buddy Scott painted that scheme. There's a video out there about a guy who got his head lopped off because the rotor dipped and he was standing where he shouldn't have been. A/C 100 was the bird that did it. That airframe never deployed again. I'm also gonna use that scheme.

Time for an update

Had a great chat with Copter Doctor this evening and he gave me great insight and advice on the Blackhawk...more on that later.

In preparation for a little more flight testing I checked all the bolts and fittings. All looked good. Then I worked on a few more things to be able to fly with the fuse top and elevator mounted.

First thing was to cut the fuselage top forward of the swash/servos, etc. to allow for open access to the battery area in the nose.

Then I played with thumb or canopy screws for quick no-tool removal. I am not sure I am settled with that but I did not want to go with alignment pins and magnets as I have done before on some of my other birds.

I marked and did some preliminary cuts for the swash and will cut further as you can see from the red marked. The washout arms need clearance as well. From the black marker lines you can see some of the other cutsouts I will be doing.

She is starting to look like a Seahawk...

Stay tuned...

Oh dear... why on earth did you keep the anti-rotation bracket? Also, a smaller swash would have made all the difference...

Jack,
I was too focused on the tail drive and sorting it out that I didn't really think about the swash.

Hopefully it will stay in the air and no one will notice. If not I will redo it.
Thanks

You think you'll give it a standard torpedo load, or go with a LEP with a hellfire launcher? I've always like the way it looks with the hellfires. A nose mounted flir or sidemount? Forgive me if I'm excited for you. I love that aircraft, and can't wait to build one of my own!

Bear,
Great question. I haven't thought that far out...but it is time to start. Let me do some research. If you have any pics to share, let me know.

Thanks for your interest!

Okay...cut a hole. Slide in a paper towel roll. Glue in with thick CA and soak tube with thin CA. Trim to contour. Shoot primer to see what you have to fix.

It turned out pretty good. Cardboard & CA...you can't beat it.

Next is the front end cut outs. The whole exhaust area will be flat black and I will use acrylic...got to love electric as far as paint goes.
