I am using the 600E with the torque drive at the mechanics and tail. Dr. Tim's adapter is nice if you are converting a belt drive.

Len Mount makes a nice cable drive that might be the ticket. I have an email into Copter Doctor to get his council.
Thanks

That is one very unusual SeaHawk. Not only the livery but the tail wheel make it unique for the USN. The tail wheel here looks the same as the BlackHawk and the USAF version, whereas the SeaHawk and the USCG JayHawk use the pictured tail wheel configuration shown below. Don't think this one is meant for ship board operations.

It will make a very unique model for sure.

This is not unusual at all. This is the one of the Navy newest helicopters the MH-60S. It replaced the CH-46 and has been in the fleet for about 3 years. It's certified for landing on almost all navy ships that the current H-60B/F/H could land on.

The paint job is tradition for each squadron. The CAG bird always has a pretty impressive paint job. If your looking for any others I have access to all the Seahawks in San Diego, so I can snap some shots for you if you like.

The second picture is a SH-60F from HS-14. It's the new paint job on its CAG bird. I was in HS-14 for 8 years so if you need more photos of it or the old paint job which was nicer in my opinion I can get it for you.

The only problem..(if it is in your situation)..is where the tail drive exits the mechanics.
In my case (cobra) the mechanics were too high in the fuse and required an "S" bend in the cable to get to the TR. This proved to be problematic as well as the fact that Century sends you a tiny Speedo cable that can't hold up to the torque.
By using the Dr. Tim Adapter, the cable now exits the mechanics at the base and the bend is nice and gentle.
As far as converting the torque tube you simply replace the front drive with a belt version (standard Align part and available from lot's of people that have converted to TT. I use the TT end at the TR also.

You can get cable in bulk from Dumas Boat people..very reasonable and different sizes.

I337sar,
I would love some photos of each if possible

Same issue with the Blackhawk. Makes sense, I will get the Adapter from Dr.Tim.

Thanks

Well now that I have some feel for the tail drive...which will be a flex drive...I have started in earnest.

First thing to do is fit former F9 and F10. This was a dry fit to lay in the Trex TT tail unit. This done I ground off the tail tube tension tabs and glue the formers. The tail drive attaches via the tail fin bolts as shown.

With that done it is time to do some careful measuring and fitting. Then you cut the tail off just below the tail gear box blister.

Then its time for more fitting and measuring.

With some effort the tail top fits over the tail drive...this allows for alignment and marking.

That done then its time to clean the inside of the tail and roughen with sandpaper. The former is glued in and I am using Aeropoxy for this step.

Once it dries I will glue thin plywood tabs for screwing on the tail top for reattachment.

Stay tuned...

Time for an update

Time for an update. I have built the mount for the Trex mechanics. It was pretty staight forward...after deciding to use Dr. Tim's belt...shaft...lowering....domahichie....thing. It is going to work very well.
I have decided to go flex drive and have cobbled together everything I need and will update on that in a few days. Also note: Dr. Tim turned me onto the website where you can order all kinds of belts. As shown I will need a smaller belt than provided in his kit. I will be using a 16" belt from http://www.sdp-si.com. Model #A 6B 3-083025.

Dr. Tim is the bomb.

Orignially I had plans to really go after scale gear. Thanks to Copter Doctor's comment to stay light...I just kinda faked it with brass tube, aluminum tube, heat shrink and some faucet springs. Copter Docter is also the bomb and chased me on the cell phone for days trying to provide assistance on the tail drive...thanks Doc...we will eventually connect.

Also, on the Seahawk the tail gear is up closer to the main. Here again, I used bits and pieces to build a tail gear. It has a longer strut than the mains and hangs down longer than the mains in flight. It drops by gravity having cut a slot in the housing tube (Trex torque drive tube)with a retainer screw in the strut...RC car-mini-wheels and axel.

I have bent my brass tube...drilled new holes in the bulkheads and started getting everything aligned for the tail drive....stay tuned.

Would you tdo the same for a T-rex 600N. Would it also fit a Century Blackhawk

hmmm... This height issue is making me rethink if I should put my Predator inside.

In the Century compatibility chart it shows a perfect match...

The tail drive is a flex drive using a .150 cable and teflon packing tube by Octura (RC Boating Hardware)...Now Dr. Tim has out is flex drive for 50 size and would work great. The brass tube is 1/4". By using the lowering unit the flex drive has one gentle bend...turn very smoothly.

The rudder is a snake and the wiring for lights along with the flex drive is supported by the bulkheads.

F6 bulkhead is the closest to the fuse. Just before the upward turn of the tail there is a bulkhead F8.

On the short length of tail boom tube I mounted the rudder servo and should work out well with very little friction.

Also shown in the above photo is some carbon reinforcement to add strength to the rear area with no weight gain (other than thinned epoxy).

The brass flex drive tube slips into the tail boom where I glued in rubber washers and a small section of Trex torque tube which makes a great receiver. With the tail on the flex slips right into the drive unit.

Then it is on to test fit the mechanics braces and they worked out well.

A spool up test confirmed no fuse vibration or ground resonance off the landing gear. There will be some servo wiring rerouting need to be done to facilitate removal of the mechanics for maintenence. They have to be able to slide forward about 3" to disengage the flex drive tube.

I installed a battery plate upfront of the mechanics to get the COG on . From this point I need to measure, cut and solder the tail end of the flex drive.

Once I get all the mechanics working as they should it will be on to hover testing. From there strip it down to start body detailing. for instance, the Seahawk's door glazing is different from the Blackhawk, etc.

Till the next update....

Hi Rckfish,

could you measure the height of the fuse from the floor to the swash opening? I am trying to see if I can lower the swash on the Predator somewhat so I can hide it inside the fuse.

I would only need about -3 of collective, so it could go down quite a bit.

Thanks for the favour.

Hi Rckfish,

thank you very much. Appreciated.

I'll measure my mechanics at home tonight to see how they would fit.

How's the project progressing?
