Getting close to purchasing one...have sold my Trex 500. Is there anyone who made this switch and is dissapointed?
I've read another post with many raves about it. Only heard of one issue (soft dampners).

Is there any other 500 size heli I should be looking at besides the Atom with similar attributes?

Can't comment on the Protos but the atom looks to be alot more durable in case of a crash. I have talked to some guys who said a protos almost has to be completely rebuilt. I love mine so far over the trex 500. It is alot smoother.

i have not talked to guys......I owned one. I crashed it and the only things that broke were the boom, belt, and tail blades. You can never predict how a heli will end up in a crash but at least the frames are only $26 for both halves

Guess it must be nice to never crash. I have only been flying 8 months. So crashing is sometimes unavoidable. I try very hard not to but to get better and try new things(other than on the sim) you crash sometimes. Glad you are happy with the Protos. BTW why are you in the Compass forum anyway if you are so happy. Just to steer people away from the atom?

I am not steering people away from the Atom at all. I think it is a fine heli (as I told him in a PM) He asked:

So I gave him my opinion and THEN I explained form an owner's point of view that your statement does not apply to everyone's personal experiences.
BTW I am pretty sure Eury totaled his Protos AND his Atom so he would be able to give you the skinny on that one..........Ron

First of all the saying the atom is a fine heli was not posted for everyone to see. I really don't have any beef at all. All that grabbed my attention was the statement we buy to fly not crash. I agree to an extent. I saw Nick Maxwell and Jamie Robertson crash the same day in Tyler, TX. It is a matter of time to rebuild to fly again for me, not money. So if you have experience with the protos being a tough heli, I am glad to know. May buy one. But one thing is for sure we all crash whether we want to or not. Even the best of us and even when money is not the issue. I can tell you this we all know this hobby is something that takes alot of dedication. If I put as much time in playing golf as I do this I would be a scratch player. Its cool Ron, I was not aware you said its a fine heli. Take care.

hi

that atom is hands down the best 500 out there.cost, performance and power out of the box and no upgrades needed. i owned and flew them all. i'm even putting my full upgrades protos for sale soon because i do not fly it.when i wanna fly a 500 i fly the atom!
