Where is all the Lepton EX pilots? Is this machine such a great performer, and has no mechanical failures, there no need to discuss, or what?

I am receiving a Lepton in the next day or two, so I would love to get as much advice as possible on this machine that pilots can provide here. I do see the "other" fourum has mass postings on this machine alone. Maybe everyone has deverted their?

Im just dying to get some start and set tips for my new baby. Is there anything that can be done on th bech that helps this machine at all? I here many use the TREX 500 landing gear to get the tail higher offset to the ground, as many are using a larger tail blade for proper tail authority. Any comments here?

How about 3s set ups at 22. volts, or 4's, or 5's, and 6's?

I see alot of pilots using some very high end motors/esc combos for this machine like the http://kontronik.com/en/regler-einz...ower-house.html and the http://kontronik.com/en/motor-einzeln-/kora-15.html motors.

This has me a bit concearned as this equipment is really expensive. I don't want to skimp, and use junk either. So what are some other alternitives?

The flying style I want out of this machine will be a style of large, wide open, circuits, with large loops, barrel rolls, and 540 stalls at the end of the circuits. Im really not interested in flying this machine extremly hard in a tight formation, nor am I qualified to do this with a high dollar machine at this point either. I have a 450 class for that kind of abuse. My goals are to have a machine that will last throuout my hobby experience for many years.(I don't plan on buying or upgrading for quite some time either.)

How about the stretch kits, why do this, why alter this machine in such a fasion? What does this do for this size machine, besides make it a touch longer, heavier, and harder on batteries. From my understanding the Tex 500 is a tank compared to this machine, and eats high grade batteries for breakfast. This is somthing I want to avoid at all costs.

How is the tuning of this helicopter, meaning, I have a cheapo JR6102 72mgz radio, and a JR 6102 2.4, with minimal tuning options. I notice My mechanical adjustments must be presise on my 450 as the radio gives very little options for extreme fine tuning options.

Sorry for the rant, but Im excited, and want to get charged up about this helicopter, as I have wanted this bird for about 3 years now, just could'nt afford it, nor did I have the flight experience needed for such a heli, just to waste into the ground.

Landing Gear - Use the Guai 550 gear struts. They are fantastic. They work great and look cool. Check my gallery for pics.

Tail Blades - 68mm blades. I use plastic ones, but they work pretty good.

Cells - I'm running mine on 4S. It works for me.

Pinions - I went to a 22 tooth pinion so the headspeed would not go above 2900. That's with the Hyperion 3025-10 Motor.

Building - Make sure you lube the the spindle and insulators with a good silicon lubricant. Also, ensure you squeeze the flybar cage together real tight when tightening the screws for the flybar.

Throttle Curve - Make sure you have a pretty fast curve on initail start up. If you have too low a head speed you will get a pendimun vibration.

Main Blades - Buy some Radix Blades, you will really like them. I have Radix and SAB FAI's, they work really good.

Options - I use the MJP Carbon ESC bracket, the Frame brace, the rear frame connector brace and the extended tail fin http://www.mjpcarbon.com/lepton I also have the 64tooth pulley from Gerrmany and the 13tooth HDX tail rotor pulley on mine.

All really great stuff here, Thanks!

What is the deal with changing the tail pulley gear? Are you guys looking for a higher tail Speed, for more tail authority?

Im glad to hear 4s is still working good. What ESC are you using? I have heard that the Hyperion motor is good, but I have also heard of it burning up. Is this only in extreme cases of the wrong mechanics during operation? I really do want to use the Hyperion 3025-10 Motor to, as I think it looks great, and I have heard more good then bad, plus the cost is right up my alley.

What 4s cells are you running?

As far as TC's, maybe this little trick will work with my other heli, that has a weird wobble in the begining, but soon straightens out at 2400/2800 HS.

I really like the esc mount, and rear mount that is offset to the motor. Sweeeeet!!

The stock Lepton gear ratio is 1-4 on the tail. If you modify a HDX 13 tooth tail pulley to fit the Lepton it will bump up your gear ratio to 1-4.3. If you install the 64 tooth gear pulley and use the 14 tooth tail pulley you get a ratio of 1-4.57. If you use the 64 tooth geap r=pulley with the 13 tooth HDX gear you get a ratio of 1-4.92. So yes, you get better tail authority. And when using the 68mm tail blades, it's even better.

I'm using Hyperion electronics in my Lepton and Trex 450. I like them. They have worked great from me. I'm using the Hyperion Titan 80A Hi-Pro Brushless 4A Cool SBEC ESC. The new one out has a low battery warning light. I also have the computer patch cord so I can program my ESC through the computer, it makes set-up so much easier.

I'm using Thunder Power 4cells packs, They are the 3850 extreme packs. They work just fine for what I'm doing, just flying around no hard core 3D.

Watch that Canomod canopy your getting. They don't fit very well, atleast mine doesn't.

Also, the person you want to chat with is JAFA here on RR. He flies the tar out of his Lepton. He has lots of great info. He's the one that turned me on to the Guai 550 struts. He has also messed around with different motors and ESC's.
