Bert,

Make sure that you give the police case number to the LHS. They need that number to get the police to do anything. I feel your pain. Had the same thing happen to me in broad daylight. Hope you find the scum bags or they try and charge the lipos and they burn thier house down.

The interesting question:

Did the thieves come across the helicopters by pure chance or were they specifically affected? (Heli-addicts or somebody who generally wants to damage Bert Kammerer. One has to think about offended friends, offended guys from the local field, and and...)

If theory B is applicable the chance to find the stuff seems rather bad because there is no aim to make money with.

For theory A perspectives are better especially when the jerks need the money asap. But: Smart thieves will check the scene, wait and sell later.
And being offered seperately and without specific or individual items such as the canopy or the preproduction 700 it will be nearly unpossible to clarify its origin.

Anyway, I wish you good luck!

That really sucks, but what amazes me is that he fit all of that stuff in a Yaris!!!!
It must have been packed tight in there making for a quick smash and grab.
With this community and the reputation of Bert Kammerer, I give this event the best chance of positive resolution possible....

Good luck Bert.

Bobby & Bert,

So sorry to hear that your gear got stolen, Bobby if you find those retards why dont you send them over to Honduras(I´ll pay for the tickets), Remember what I told you about that bad place close to the city? we can drop them off there and the locals will do the rest.

Really hoping for Bert to get all his stuff back.

Sorry to hear the bad news. This is a real wakeup call for those of us who travel with our helis. I know I'll keep mine locked in the bed of my truck out of sight from now on. I'll be especially nervous when I'm visiting Orlando in a couple of weeks. I won't be letting them out of my sight.

Don't be so sure even that is safe. At an event here in NZ a couple of years ago, around 40K worth of helis were stolen from Hotel Rooms at a big event...wanker thieves!

At face value, something seems a bit off with this. Seems a little too random if you know what I mean.

Besides that worrisome hunch, man am I sorry to hear about this kind of sh1t. I don't think the guy deserves the fifty to a hundred or so hours of work he's looking at on rebuilding and setting up and all that, even if/when handed new hardware.

99 percent of us are honest, hard working people. Stealing someone's bird(s) that took hours upon hours of effort, and $$$, well I just don't know how some folks sleep at night.

Is Bert supposed to be at MHA in 3 weeks??

Edit: Ugh saw where he is supposed to be. @%&*%&*&$

Nah, they had an events at TORCH's field this weekend.

You know Carey I kinda feel the same way you do in regards that someone must've known that stuff was in there. Bert lives in Fl. which means his windows should be pretty well tented and IIRC, they are. Doesn't seem likely that someone walked into the parking lot and picked the one car that they otherwise wouldn't have known had all the equipment in it without actually knowing who Bert is. As already mentioned, IHOP is very busy on a Sunday morning so there would've been a ton of cars in that parking lot. The chances of randomly picking that car are slim and the risk of getting caught certainly isn't worth it especially if you don't know what's already in the car.

Alan Szabo Jr, at least as of last year (XFC 08) also has a Yaris. It's a bit tricked out, but he was able to fit a few helis in there with no problem, along with an XBox (or PS3).

I don't know that Yaris's are hot cars to boost, so it seems to me like it might have been a bit more targeted. Either the theives knew Bert, and/or knew the stuff in the car had some sort of value.

It's a crap situation and I feel really frustrated for Bert. Fortunately, despite the time consumption issue of building and setting up new machines, at least no one as hurt.

I don't know what Bert's configuration was in his car, but it's certainly wise to cover up whatever goods are in your car/truck. If "they" can't see it they may not bother taking the risk.

I hope the models are found intact and the theives brought to justice.

Since it was stolen in the Orlando area:
Make sure you alert Graves Hobby in Orlando. It is a likley place somebody might try to sell stolen helicopters. These guys are knowledgeable about heli's and will be on the alert if you give them a description.

Hey guys thanks for all of the help. His Yaris has some pretty dark tint but you can see through it if you are close enough. The funny thing was that my truck was parked next to his car to the right which is the same window that they busted. I had a few things in plain sight but they didnt even leave a scratch. We filed a police report and are checking some pawn shops tomorrow.

As big a "world" and the model heli community may seem to be, it will be very small for the guys that try to sell this stuff. As many people as will see this, someone will likely spot it at a pawn shop, hobby shop, ebay, or the like.

Hopefully, trying to sell the stuff will be like trying to sell a case of VD.

As noted, the crappy thing about this is not getting the equipment replaced. Rather, Bert has to rebuild his whole !@#$ fleet. THAT is a bitch.
