CJ

I apologize for misunderstanding your "wind" comment.

With the DJI, for an autorotation, you would have to switch to MANUAL mode. Collective is slow is both ATTITUDE and AUTO modes.

Tell me, does the profi allow for autorotation under auto control?

Yes. While in GPS and ALTITUDE or DAMPEN hold you have complete control of collective and cyclic instantly.

For autorotation: my flight mode switch turns on and off the AUTO. So when I engage the throttle hold switch, it's programmed to turn off the AUTO. I'm fine with full manual control for auto's. Fortunately auto's are few and far between. I believe that fully autonomous flight is safer by far than manual forms, as disorientation is a hazard to the public more than engine failure in my opinion.

DJI descends at about 400 ft per minute I believe, what is an autorotation descent, any guesses, 1500 fpm, etc?

Depends on the amount of negative pitch. Try autoing and playing with the amount of negative and you'll find that the heli is capable of nearly floating down when near zero or dropping like a rock with -5 degrees. You can hear and see the rotor RPM change with the pitch setting. Typically I see people practice them from lower altitudes that won't give the time to play around, so go higher. Don't let the rpm decay too much and try pushing the cyclic forward for more penetration. The demo guys that do the so-called 1,000ft autos are giving a show and want a high rate of descent. They could just as easily demonstrate a high amount of hang time. If you FPV with sound, that is a lot of fun...especially if you have telemetry showing the rotor speed. Have fun with it without a payload first then add your flying weight.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

Here's a "climb" video with the adjusted pitch range.

Wow, that's neat with the wind turbine in the background...

If you focus tightly on the helicopter (plastered firmly to the background clouds), the slow rotation of the wind turbine makes it look like the sky and heli are drifting left. Weird optical illusion, possible only becuase that heli doesn't move at all

Cool

Attention: XP3.1 gyro stable gimbal system can’t be used on 4-servo
helicopter

Any chance of this being changed in the future? The Vario XLV and XLC are 4 servo helis that can easily carry a 3 axis gimbal. 4 servos offer redundancy and added safety. Important features when flying something that big and heavy.

I guess for now, I'll have to use a separate system for the PTZ gimbal.

Not sure what DJI has planned. This is a hardware issue. The adapter would need more ports.

In a 4 servo system the 4th servo is plugged into the AUX port of the adapter.

The same AUX port is used for either tilt or roll stabilization.

The BATT port on the adapter is the second tilt/roll port. You cannot control this as there is no output lead. So if you need to adjust you won't be able to control this axis.

This is great discussion ,

Guys , we have requirement to fly close to HV and LV electricity lines.

What are your views(prognosis) of its affects on DJI

a) Electromagnet interference , around HV and LV electricity lines. (dist 10 meters - 30meters )

b) What steps are to be taken to prevent interference to DJI and consequential damage to the heli.( other than moving it away from the electricity line)

We recently had troubles with helicommand(3D) near HV line.
