Here's my review on DJI's XP3.1 autopilot system.

Wow! What an incredible tutorial and review. I love the 'fail safe' demo. It's nice to see somebody show what the unit can do in close range that clearly demonstrates it's ability.

Wow - nice review, it must have taken you a long time to prepare that.

I was watching the failsafe video and saw the heli move a few meters to the left and down while the radio was turned off - I would have pooped my pants if it did that while it was that close to me.

What happened - is that normal ?.

Barry.

Thanks Nooobs, great info.

I have a hard time working with Chinese companies (Mainly shipyards trying and failing to build proper ships) and his is one of the first Chinese products I see which is really innovative and seems well engineerd and built properly, I am hugely impressed, I just wish my shipyards were like this but no such luck so far......

I will be monitoring those guys and waiting for their WAAS GPS version of the system which should be much better.

šPlease keep posting such good info.

Cheers

Serge

Great Review!!!
I may have to sell a kidney to get a DJI, but it will happen.
May have to sell the other kidney to have a heli worth putting it in.

AAhhhhhwwweesome man.
You really put some effort into your walkthroughs - they are just THE ones to watch.
Since I have just bought my DJI - this will be my schoolbook.

Great work! So detailed and well thought through. Nice layout as well.

Hey Noobs I think I missed the weight of the system, do you know how much it weighs?

Thanks and congrats again.

Guys

Thank you so much for the overwhelming feedback. I really appreciate it.

Yes it took awhile. Lots of coffee, sleepless nights, sushi, souvlaki and pre-planning ahead of time... and a flu in between. (not that swine flu)

The drift during the Failsafe video could have been caused by the wind. The wind was blowing well pass 30Km that afternoon. It hit a max of 37Km between 12pm to 4pm. But it should have held as seen on the other videos where the wind was blowing stronger as indicated by the white flag. (and sound)

Drift can also be caused by weak GPS signal. The hover was nose-in so we couldn't see the status of the LED. The red [edit) LED may have been flashing indicating weak GPS signal.

I'm not sure if the big hill in front of us can cause weak signal.

During my tests I saw this happen a couple of times but the system would regain signal within seconds as seen in the video. The heli held position before I regained control.

Can't panic in a situation like that though. Just remain calm. The heli can't tip over. (I tried) It's so stable you could probably catch it by the skids!

Update: new replacement hardware just arrived. I'll update the review tonight.

More videos and hardware tests to come...

White LED I thought was poor magnetic compass reading and Red LED is weak GPS signal. After your review, how dare I question the "master".

You're correct. Red LED is GPS. White is attitude. Well in any case either one may cause drift. I should hover tail-in next time. I just hate looking at the butt of the heli. LOL

I'm no master. Still learning this stuff.

Or mount the LED on the front.

I can't believe you haven't tapped into your night lights. Not one video at night with the DJI. Night flight testing is your specialty.
