Ironhide, cool looking ride you got there. I've got one also, but I've not considered the ECF for it (but would make a lot of since cause you have to cut a hole in the front window for cooling flow).

I'm not looking to make her a feather weight, but rather trying to see how much I can drop without loosing stability. I'd also like to try the ECF cause it just seems more effecient in theory (for example look at almost every car produced now). Hell, maybe we can even come up with a "super charged" YS if we could build a pound or two of pressure

Rymps , a little thin for me but I will follow your same mod but send it back out for Anodizing .Seems simple but effective . I would just be sure to make a box out of your bracket .

Missle I'm up for anything to make an engine breathe better but I'm not so sure you can force feed a 2 stroke nitro diesel ?

a little thin for me

The thickness it 1 mm. The original part is 9g and the moded part is 5g. I used a 3/8 and 1/2 end mill to cut the parts. The thickness can be thinner as the front frame provides the backing and strength.

That would make no difference in my case as I did think of that, but I raelizde what this part dose. Its job is just to hold the frames together by acting as a fancy nut plate. The frames and bolts do most of the work. You could mill the center out of the block and have 4 peices the bolt to the heli and it would work just as well, but i thought my way would be user freindly as one peice.

send it back out for Anodizing [quote]I am planning on doing the same, but wanted to show what I have done. And I thought this would show up in a picture better. But i like your thinking on this

Now it is time to work on the tail rotor hub and then the rear tail boom mount.

Are you planning on flying with the SLA material? If so let us know if the fan stays together at full RPM.

Where did the wt. savings come from? Is it thinner walled?

Let us know if it cools better or not as well.

Also, pitching the fins will rob HP, will this loss be greater then the gained power being 45g lighter?

I do like the turn vane inside . I don't know how much flow will stay attached but I could test it for ya . I work at Airflow sciences in MI .

Some of the SLAs now days are pretty strong stuff and some even high temp .

Hi together!

I’m flying the fan already for more then 20 flights and there are no problems at all.
The material is polyamide 11 and it is stable enough. One of the reasons to make the fan stable is the second cap, which carry the shovel from both sides.
If you take a closer look at the shovels you will see that they are curved with the rotating direction. That’s been used to make the fan quieter. If they are curved against the rotating direction it may bring some more extra airflow, but this time there is no need for, not either on summery air temperature up to 30°C. Maybe the vane helps to cool the engine too!

Yes, the weight saving is a result of thinner material of the fun housing.

It’s also easier to mount the housing by the possibility to screw the housing after the engine is installed.
All in all I’m happy with the new fan.

Today I mounted a new enhanced version, with a housing which covers to the engine closer.

This time there is no plan to sell these parts!

If you have some good ideas in this case, I will look forward to your proposals!

Bernd

Sweet looking fan! Very interesting design. I am waiting to switch my frames to the FBH version(frames and bearing blocks) also. I am building one with them and need to switch the other machine over.. I can't wait!

But, pretty fan...

Every time I fly I loose more hair! LOL

Well I finally got my original Synergy back in the air today but not after adding a lil "lightweight" mod to it

To sum it up, I've got the electric fan installed and the best part is the entire setup weights LESS than 1/2 the stock fan setup. For now, I'm running the fan off the rec battery (Fromeco 2S 4800) and motor temps were in the 200-230 range but it's my first run with this motor (OS 91 SZ-pump) and I've got to get here tuned. Power so far is already more than what I was getting out of my YS 91-ST.

Is the weight reduction worth the chance of the fan failing in flight?

Does it make your heli perform that much better?

Just wondering!
