This is my only complaint about the Atom. The dampers wear out way too fast and are expensive to replace ($16). Does anyone know of a replacement? If there isn't one I was figuring I could just replace the O-ring, since the delrin part doesn't wear out, but am having trouble finding the right size. I think it some type of metric size but all the hardware stores have is standard sizes that are all too thick. #5 is close but just too wide to fit in the head. Does anyone know what size O-ring it is and where to get them? I love my Atom but am tired of flying with worn out dampers. Thanks guys

That looks like them. Thanks. I may try and find that size locally or buy a whole bunch of them on line from an O-ring seller. The standard O-rings I found are 10 for about $2 and since they wear out so fast it wouldn't be a bad idea to have lots of spares on hand.

I hope so its what they are selling as ATOM dampers

I hear everyone saying the stock dampers wear out fast on the ATOM,how many flights is everyone getting,on average, and what is your flying style?.

what about doing away with the delrin piece all together and going with a standard type damper?

My dampers were sloppy after about 10 to 15 flights. I was not too happy about that. I have found lots of places that sell O-rings on line but a lot of them sell only to businesses, ie. Grainger they are about 25 for under $6 though. I signed up as a fake business but I found somewhere on their site that they check your business info when you first order so I decided not to order, get caught, and look stupid. The search continues..... I'll let you guys know what I find if I find anything. I wish someone would just make some regular type dampers for them.

Thanks Lappster, Here's a link http://www.mcmaster.com/#9263K293 I ordered 50 of them so I'll probably have a lifetime supply. I ordered the hardest ones they had (Shore A 75) so hopefully they'll be a stiffer and last longer than the stockers. I will let you guys know.

I've got an up and down wag in my new Atom (used actually, I've got a few dozen flights on it). Can't find the cause anywhere, is this a sign of the worn dampners?

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

If it is nodding, it is probably low head RPM (nodding is usually caused by a combination of hard dampers and low head RPM). It should be around 2700 in the hover and in Idle-up.

It will nod at lower head speeds.

Hey RAK402,

i'm running my Atom with the 8 tooth pinion and thus have a headspeed of approx. 2500 and i have no wobble at all ! You don't need to run 2700 headspeed !

Grtz,
Dirk

Not even when abruptly stopping elevator input? I also run 8T and mine has a bit of a dampened wobble (the wobble decays to nothing after a second or two) when I do that but not in a hover.

Also, I'm not sure how you're getting 2500. Are you running the stock motor and a 6S lipo? Mine starts around 2300 and ends up around 2200 by the end of the flight. The math would seem to indicate that it's close to normal:

25.2V x 1080Kv x ~85% efficiency / 9.75 gear ratio = 2373 RPM.

Hi Alan,

i have 2480 rpm on the 8 tooth pinion with no load, so at zero pitch. So during flight i must have something like 2380 rpm !

Grtz,
Dirk

I haven't been able to fly since I've been waiting to get my batteries warrantied. I have since ordered some new ones and will tell you when I get to fly again. Should be next week sometime.

Yes they do feel quite a bit harder to the touch. Hopefully they will fly better. I'll let you guys know as soon as I have a battery to fly it with.

Any updates on the O-rings? Has anyone determined where to get the correct ones? I went all around town today and can't get them at hardware stores.

I just had to buy a new set of dampeners and they don't last long for hard 3D... I'm not going to want to replace $15 dampeners every 20 flights.
