Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > Flybarless Head and needed equipment for M/A Excel Gas???

I am new to Flybarless and just finished setting up an Align 450 SE with great results and satisfaction. I would like to convert my Excel Gas to flybarless.
Where would I look to find the head etc to convert it? I know it is quickly becoming an antique, but I still love flying it for 25 plus minutes per tank.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Richard,
I guess you will have 2 do some research before deciding.
You must chcek the whole geometry from the servo arms over the swash plate to the blade-grips. For any FBL stabilization to work properly, you have to configure a mechanical set-up, where you achieve a pitch-range of cca. 11 deg. (fully sufficient for gaser) and a cyclic range of about 7 = 5 deg. + 2 deg. for the FBL regulation (also enough for a gaser) at cca. 100 pct servo-travel...... The goal therefor is to put together a combination of servo-arm lenght, swash span and span of the linkages on the blade grips which results in the above stated throws at +/- 100 pct. servo-travel.
This means you will possibly have to use different servo-arm lenghts or change the swash for one with a larger or a smaller diameter. With no off-shelf solution at hand, you have no other chance than to experiment.
Hope this helps
David

Take a look at this thread to see what MrMel did for a FBL head on a MA machine.

Piece of cake...

MrMel has converted a few Min Airs and he really knows his stuff

It's a piece of cake though..Just get the tempest metal grips and stock metal head block...

With Flybarless you just need a swash driver and the Pitch arms that attach to the swashplate need to be centered down the mainshaft...plus they need to be approx 25-30mm out from center of the spindle

hhmm

Eury did a Ma 1005 gasser conversion. He is the only one I know of who has tried it. Mixed results.
