My Posts This: Topic Forum | This Topic is not meant to be a build thread or an in depth review of the model but rather my overall thoughts and opinions concerning the Aeolus 50.
For an in depth review, please see Dan's build thread located here: http://runryder.com/helicopter/t507428p1/
Having either flown or built just about every 50 sized heli available on the market since the mid '90's I have to say that the Aeolus 50 is at the top of the pack. For the price, this kit offers an exceptional value for the intermediate to advanced pilot.
I have fallen in love with this design. Everything is modular. I can take all of my electronics out of the airframe in less than 5 minutes with just a few bolts. I can drop the entire engine (keeping the pipe on) with just a few more bolts. This is revolutionary as it will allow a frame change in a very short period of time. (unlike similar models in production and to be released ) Or I could have two identical airframes with only one set of electronics and engine and swap them in a very short period of time.
I also really like the radial bearing added to the one-way and the duel radial bearings supporting the clutch assembly.
Something that is also noteworthy is how good the links are. I have never seen links that are of this quality. I didn't have to size a single one and they are all silky smooth. Also included in the kit are two link wrenches to make the most tedious job of any build a breeze.
Here is my current setup: AR7100R 8717's 8900G/Spartan HS-65MG for throttle Outrage 2s 2500 rx pack OS Hyper/MP5SB Radix 600's and Super Stubz
A few of my thought/ideas:
The frames are extremely narrow and very rigid

Knowing that fitting an MP5 would be tight I did what I could from the beginning to ensure that it would fit. I used a bead of epoxy both on the top and the bottom of the tank to bias it to the right side of the heli (away from the pipe). I also fabricated a 4mm carbon gasket using trex 700 frame material and then sealed it with RTV.

I did have to enlarge the hole with a dremel to fit the 7100R governor sensor.

The head is a clone of the Trex 600. Unfortunately so is the swash. The inner and outer balls are not in line with each other

The front "radio pod" allows for an easy, clean setup

The "engine pod"

The tail also looks very similar to the Trex 600. A couple nice additions include a clamp for the booms supports and nice guides that the tail rod snaps into.

The completed heli:

AUW: 7.55 lbs. w/o fuel

Overall this is an exceptional kit. I will update this topic with the flight reports to follow.
