Just set up the new alum.tail gear set.
Perfect fit with the machined shimset.Just trim, deburr and install.
With the Hyper-ised coating on the gears, they're sure to last long.....unless you really stick it in the ground, maybe

I understand that it will make them last longer, but doesn't that mean something else has to fail, like the crown gear. Crown gears are $40 and tail gears are $36 for a set. How much will the new Aluminum gears be? Whats the real advantage?

I'm not trying to be rude just trying to understand. I'm missing something.

They do look nice though!

To be honest,I've never stripped a set flying but I have seen them strip doing constant piro reversals. It should help with this crowd.
Plus....the more Hyper,the better

Watch the website,as they should be up shortly.

Thanks for the input. I just recently stripped a set in the tail and replaced them with stock gears. I know we talked about the new aluminum ones in the thread I posted on my stripped tail gears.

I hope this does help the people out that fly harder than I do. It's always nice to see new and improved products.

I stripped mine not too long also and will be looking forward to something that will keep me from having to increase my saving ability over my flying ability. Why was the brass piece trimmed and what were those grooves in it for? The stock brass bushing that fits inside the tail case won't work with the new metal gears?

The gears are not out yet but should be shortly Advantage is just like bart said hard tail reversing manauvers but also will hold better in a crash.Instead of paying $80 in a crash for new gears all u might need is a crown cause let me tell u these things are bullet proof. I got three flights on them today and tried to kill them and not even a problem they ROCK!!!! Tommorrow there will be more testing Ill see if we can get some vid of the abuse. And yes there is a new brass sleeve kit to enshure precise gear mesh the two rings on the sleeve in barts pic are cut with a hobby knife and set behind each gear on the tail input & output shafts then u would assemble as normal. thanks jay

You'll be buying a TT, tail blades, t/r grips and t/r shaft instead.

While I think it's a great project, gears are plastic for a reason. What is the real benefit of these alum gears besides the insane tail reversal protection?

I agree with Helico-pteron in that there's now question as to where the "breaking point" will now be? Why not make the crown gear out of metal and leave these plastic? Not including cost, it seems to be easier to change the tail gears as opposed to having to change the crown gear (just finished replacing my crown gear tonight). Or how about making both the crown and the tail gears out of metal and just leaving the tail blades as the breaking point(s)?

WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!

I have a set with around 100 flights already , got them packed and sealed the housing shut with alum tape.no unusual crown gear wear here.

That is the reason. you don't need the Alum gears unless you brake a set doing tail reversals.

or tap a tail blade during landing, plastic gear tooth still in place but cracked..
...during next flight it may come loose and wedge between another, then, she-bangy, tail is gone ! it is possible right ? I love those metal gears

Update...
After having servo horn issues,I was not able to put the amount of time I cared to on these gears to give an honest evaluation to share.

The set of gears I installed lasted 4 gal.and wore out,due to faulty installation on my part.

Jim installed a set on his tailcase and put it on my heli..He put a light coating of the special Bonta grease, shimmed them equally and put some pixie dust on them.

I have literally tried to destroy them doing piroflips, pirofunnels both ways, plain fulltilt reversing piros doing climbouts and whatnot.

I have 3 gallons on the new ones and not even a witness mark on the gears.Hopefully,I won't have to crash test them
So far so good.
