You know, it really is a shame Eflite and MS composit didn't get together and take the best aspects of the Hornet and the Blade CP pro---blend them together. With Eflite's excellent marketing and MS composit's micro engineering-- it might have worked out. Who knows !

Very skilled and entertaining Israeli pilot - Helis Foamies Jets you name it
His Hornet vids crack me up

Here's a link to that vid in wmv form but you'll have to 'Save Target As...' and remove the '%20' from the end of the file name to view it

Here's a couple more

Well, your timeline is a little off. The Hornet came well before the Blade CP line, I think I got my original Hornet FP Schweitzer 300 kit back in 2001, and the collective pitch upgrade appeared somewhere about '02 or '03. Back then, we were still using nimh batteries, and the only CP micros that you heard about were the Piccolo Pro and the Hornet CP.

Fast forward a couple years, and the asian manufacturers basically copied the Hornet layout and head, threw on a motor-driven tail (easier to build/manufacture, probably cheaper too), and then e-flight and some others started marketing it. It flew a heck of a lot worse than the Hornet, but it was an ARF and kits and parts were everywhere so it became popular (much like Align helis, hardly a top notch machine but the marketing and availability cant be beat). I doubt that MSComposit would have been willing to work with the parties that pretty much copied and killed off their helicopter. The Hornet started to fade away shortly thereafter.

Thanks for the history, Dave. I wasn't sure who came first and what years. I do remember it was about 1999 or so when I saw the first ad for the Ikarus Piccolo----ordered one and waited month after month for the piccoboard to come in from germany. Got an Ikarus Eco 8 instead. The first time I saw the Hornet was Martin Duzi's in 2005 or 06--- always loved the size of it, perfect for the backyard.

For a Hornet-like micro, look at the Ricco. I have a little thread on the 'new and emerging' sub-forum here on RR. It flies better than the hornets, is a lot more durable and easier to set up, parts are cheap and available, etc.
